Barrel crown question - 6PPC

I've never seen a flat crown before (I've never been to a short-range BR match either)... I kinda like the way the flat crown looks :)

Potatoe... hopefully you can get your 3 issues straightened out. Wrong contour, wrong neck dia. in the chamber, and the unexpected crown. Pretty much every aspect of your barrel is wrong? :o

;) I know, that was quite a blow to me last night when I opened my package. But I've got a few things squared away. One the barrel contour is a LV, he used the larger portion of the blank since I told him that this was going to be a "learner" barrel and I was god awful concerned with making weight but still wanted it to be close. Two that target crown is his standard and assumed I knew about the flat crown, as I assumed he would recess the crown -we were both asses. Three the neck diameter is not what I had ordered, but its not a deal breaker by any means, a .262 is very common and even though he told me to send it back I've decided to stick with it. The only changes I'll make to the next barrel is the crown and have a lighter barrel if I decide to get that much deeper into competition.

I believe, most Smiths will "break" the edge on a newly cut crown until it no longer "pulls" fibers from a Q-tip.

As far as the Feb. '12 PS article on crowns, I found it seriously lacking.
You cannot draw any meaningful data from a new barrel in 10 shots. Was bore cleaning done? Did it foul easily? Testing should have been done on a barrel that had a well established baseline.
When testing for accuracy...a 10x scope with European reticle is NOT a good choice....esp. @ 200 yds.
Barrel makers tell you to cut off the first inch (due to lapping)......she only took off .4 for the first test
Also, sans tunnel testing, you CANNOT draw any useful info without flags.
You especially can't render useful data by using the authors criteria:
*3 tests with 10 shot groups, yet 1 test with 5 shot group
*In order to magnify the results.....I elected to do all test shooting at 200 yds."
*"I did NOT use wind flags. But I did attempt to shoot in similar atmospheric conditions"......yet we get the following not-so subtle details : test #1."wind was erratic; test#4 "switching cross-wind gusting to 20 mph
In the end ,this "experimenter" WASTED 35 bullets and primers, powder, and 6 pages in "once" respected magazine.
