Barrel Cooling

What I have done in the past was keep a towel in my cooler with the ice and drinks. Between relays I would wipe my barrel down and cool it very fast. I had to with a heavy varmint at Butner, HOT. With a glued in action you could pour water right over the barrel with no ill effects.

Anyone want to split an order of the temp strips ? Minimum order is 20 strips at $2.05 each
If/when you do get the temp strips, make sure you fully de-grease the barrel at the spot you will attach the strip. That will save you ruining (at least) one strip like I did lol.

I suggest you have the receiver face squared up with its barrel tenon threads. Then use a shim washer thick enough to maintain headspace. Then the barrel tenon shoulder will bear tight all the way around. No more high point that causes barrels to bend it its axis as they and receivers heat up. You'll be able to shoot dozens of shots 2 or 3 per minute or faster and they'll cluster evenly about point of aim. From ambient barrel temperature to temperatures skin burning hot. No cooling stuff needed any more. Good zero on sight and proper stress relieved barrel assumed.
What is meant by "proper stress relieved barrel"?

Stress relieving is the process of changing the barrel steel areas that are "elastic" and change dimension when their temperature changes such that their "stress" is relieved and no longer elastic different than other areas. They no longer change dimension as they heat up different than the normal expansion from heating up.

All good barrels are stress relieved before customers get them. Some are better than others. If the receiver face is squared right but the barrel still shoots bullets further from point of aim as it heats up, it's bending from more expansion on the side opposite the direction bullets are going; it's not stress relieved in that area.
