Barrel cleaning solvents ??

I'm sure this is all going to be based on opinion. I shoot a 6.5x47 and I'm looking for what you guys think is a great cleaning solvent to use after a match to clean it up real good. I use Butchs bore shine but not too sure if works all that well or I'm just not giving it long enough to clean or maybe barrel just isn't thst dirty. Any help or advice would be great.

I use BBS, a bronze brush, quality patches, Iosso for carbon (every 100 rounds) and finish the regimen with Butches oil. Whatever you choose after all the suggestions, the deciding factor should be how well the gun shoots through whatever your string of fire demands may be......NOT whose bore is restored to the most pristine condition the quickest.

Great cleaning solvents? I use Butch's Bore Shine and Sweet's 7.62, and the non-solvent JB Non-embedding Bore Cleaning Compound. :)

Butche's Bore Shine, quality patches, bronze bristle brush, Sweets using a nylon brush after every 40 -50 rounds, flush everything out with Bore Tech Eliminator, then Montana Extreme gun oil. During a match, just BBS.

I hesitate to buy a borescope as I'm pretty sure it might feed my OCD.

That said, at the range before going home, I try to run a wet patch of Hoppes down the bore followed by a few strokes with a Hoppes saturated nylon brush to keep the powder fouling soft. When I get home I swab that out, run a patch of Wipe Out Accelerator followed by an application of the foamy Wipe Out and let it set for an hour. Swab that out, and reapply. After a couple hours or sometimes overnight I'll come by and swab that out. It seems to do a good job. A visual inspection of the lands nearest the muzzle indicates that the copper streaking is gone, so perhaps the rest of the bore looks the same.

I have the JB paste, but haven't used any yet. As I understand it, periodically it is good to use this to get the accumulated carbon out of the first few inches of the barrel near the chamber.

Have not used Butches since I started using Bore Tech Eliminator last year. It really eats copper and carbon fast with no ammonia. It's amazing how it works and is environmentally friendly, what ever that means. I know it has no oder at all. But you do need to use a non brass jag or you will always have a blue patch. Bore Tech makes a special jag called a proof positive jag in every caliber for this cleaner.

I used to use Hoppe's #9, Hoppe's Copper Solvent, Pro-Shot Copper Solvent IV & 1 Step plus a number of others and was not happy with the results. Went back to Sweet's 7.64 Solvent for copper then one day after an extensive clean where I thought all copper was removed I tried a follow up with BoreTech Eliminator and was amazed at what more copper it removed. Haven't used Sweet's since nor any others.

One or two patches of Eliminator whilst the barrel is still warm gets rid of any powder residue and finish up when I get home afterwards. I don't use any metal brushes in match grade barrels, J.Dewey Aluminium Jags and Iosso Eliminator Nyflex stiff Bore Brushes.

I've been looking at the Montana extreme bore solvent and copper killer. Are there products any good
It is strong and works on copper Don't clean inside with it. It has enough ammonia to wake up the dead. Matt

As I mentioned above, the last step I do is use a nylon brush with BoreTech Eliminator and am always amazed at how much more blue and crap comes out of a barrel I thought was clean, works for me.

There's a new one called Strike Hold, not advertised but look at the web site.I've been using it for 2 months on my carry Kimber and I've coated all of my guns, and swabbed the bores. I am sold. Tom

I have used about every bore cleaner made but after trying Bore Tech Eliminator it is all I use. Cuts down on scrubbing and doesn't stink up the gun room. If the copper fouling is heavy I just leave it in overnight and that takes care of it. Love it.
