Barrel chambering question

I have a heavy varmint contour 30" Krieger blank 6mm .236 bore. What Im wondering is can I have this chambered and threaded for my stolle panda and have a switch barrel? and would I need to send the whole gun to the smith or just the barrel? thanks

Your "Smith" will want the barrel, action and bolt so he can thread the barrel, chamber it to the cartridge you want and make sure it has the right headspace.

Yes,

Your smith will need your action along with the new barrel at a minimum. If you have bedding under the barrel tennon of your current barrel, your smith will need a measurement of the current tennon diameter to match the new barrel.

Give a smith of your choice a call and he will tell you what he needs to set it up.

So long as it's not one of the older Panda's, all that is needed by a BR gunsmith is the barrel blank. All of the newer Panda's are headspaced and threaded pretty much the same. I have threaded sleeves that I've made up for the Kelbley and BAT actions, that make fitting the threads a snap. Keep in mind that most all the short range BR rifles utilize actions that are glued into the stock, so this type of work is done all the time.

A good smith will only need the barrel blank, but prefer a take off barrel to measure or the receiver. Before I started doing my own, Dwight Scott would just chamber a barrel and send it to me.
