A factory barrel very likely does need to be "broke in". IMHO, the best way to do that is fire lapping with a treatment of Tubb's Final Finish. It'll smooth smoothing things out nicely. I've used it on my factory barrels (.308 and 6.5 PRC's) that are hammer forged and it really had helped and I can feel the difference when cleaning as the patches move much easier through the bore and the bore cleans up much faster. I also found some improvement in performance on paper.

Clean it before and after the first shot, with a good rod, good bronze brush and a good solvent. Make sure you don’t leave anything wet in the chamber.
Clean it again after the 10th shot.
Clean it every 50 rounds.
Factory barrels are pretty rough, but that doesn’t mean it won’t shoot well for you.

As others have stated this is a hotly and often debated topic, my opinion is that it may not help anything but it won't hurt anything if you want to invest the time.

No in my opinion based on many years of shooting many different brands of rifles. However, this is just one man's opinion and I'm not an "expert". You will find as many opinions on this topic as those regarding the "proper" procedure to clean a rifle.
The problem with this issue is you can't verify that the so-called break in procedures is necessary because you can test a "broke in barrel" against one that isn't broke in. That leads to various theoretical premises and debates.
I do make sure that all the preservative from the factory is removed with a quality solvent before shooting a new barrel but that's all.
I personally would not waste scarce components, or the time required for the laborious procedure promoted by these various "break in methods."

IMHO....you are going to need fire formed brass anyway....so fire forming and breaking in the barrel runs in parallel...
Never done it never will. They claim that it is required to burnish the reamer marks
at the throat. So shooting & cleaning will but just shooting wont. LOL
