barnard actions

I am currently using a Barnard P action, and am very happy with the action but not quite so sure about the bedding block. Do most ppl skim bed over the block?.....Going to do another rifle build with Another Barnard just wondering if im not better off with a Remy style recoil lug and pillar bedding the action.......

The Remington style recoil lug is a thing of the past.

Old technology, ancient history.

Archaic.

Kelly Bachand, and many, many others successfully shoot Barnards with the bedding block.

If that isn't enough for you, the receiver is relieved for an Anschuetz style lug, or Alan Warner will cut you a rectangular recoil lug to screw into the receiver where the normal lug fits. For about $100.

As a matter of practice, MT Guns, who import Barnard actions, will match the recoil lug to the bedding block if you order them together.

Which is to say that there will be less than a .001" clearance between the bedding block and the lug.

If you insert the lug into the block, and invert it, the lug won't shake out. It's that tight a fit.

If you're shooting anything other than long range benchrest, none of this makes any difference. The bedding block is a proven technology.

If you're shooting benchrest, I'd recommend having MT Guns bed the block into your stock, to insure that it's absolutely paralell to your fore end.

Best,

RBD

The stock im using right now is a lonewolf stock that mt guns reworked and installed the bedding block. Service was great and Mac was very helpful but the stock was in bad shape when I recieved it. Stock wouldnt hold paint.....had to be baked for several days.......their primer had to be removed which revealed alot of holes in the stock that werent fixed correctly.....anyways thats another topic.....thanx for the reply I was not aware of the lug work done by Alan Warner....

I do need to include that MT guns took $200 off the stock because of how rough it was......not too many ppl would do that since he already had my money......I think this was just a bad stock.
