Balancing a rifle

A couple of good digital bathroom scales front and back will give you a good idea of how good your balance is.
Add or subtract weight to correct the problem area.........

What is it were looking for? Equal weight under the front rest and the rear bag?

Much depends on the type of Benchrest rifle you are building. On a long range light rifle,17 pounds) it is very difficult, impossible)to get that kind of balance with a HV or HV Max countour barrel and 30" length. The barrel alone may be half of the total weight and a 70% - 30% split is more likely the result.

The same will hold true for point-blank rifles, only to a lesser extent.

But I'm not sure that you could ever get a 50/50 split, nor do I think you would want it.

I do 1K with the light gun. I could see the need if shooting free recoil but I dont. Smooth and straight tracking I would think the most important, which I have had problems with but am working on.
