Bags for shooting coyotes off of truck hoods.

All those manufactured bags are super cool and look well made. They also look like they work well for use on hoods, roofs or blind ledges. I took a few pair of older camo pants and cut off the legs. Turned them inside out and sewed one end up. Then turned them back inside out again and poured sand inside leaving about 6" from the end. I sewed Velcro on each side of the opposite end pant leg so it can be sealed once filled. This has served me well for years saving lots of money but giving me a good solid rest. Some of these are 30" or longer for window sills in blinds etc. No they aren't as well built as the ones above but they work as well and let's face it, how well built do they need to be for using a pair of throw away pants and play box sand ? They work as well or better than the several bulls bags I own minus the shoulder straps and suede leather/cordura skin. They work. Period. I keep a pair in my side by side Ranger and always have them in my tower blinds.
Thought I was the only one that cheap.

Ok, so how many guys will admit at one time or another they shot their hood or fender ?

Its ok to start the story with: "I know a guy that", [wink] we will forgive "that guy"

I can truthfully say I have never shot a hood or a fender. A Mercury Marquise padded vinyl roof that belonged to Hertz Rent-a-Car, I'll plead the 5th on that one.

I used a pant leg, shirt sleeve, and a sock and filled them with beans. They work fine as front bags but I didn't like them in the rear. I also have to be careful and not get them wet.

You guys must be lucky. We cant even prop a loaded gun against a vehicle. If you make a varmint hunting trailer, it can't be hitched to the truck. They are around and check alot. Many years ago one of my brothers shot at a duck with the airboat motor running. They were watching with Binoculars and all 4 got fined. Matt

We have been up against the same regulations here. I had some friends here a couple years ago and we were verifying ballistic charts at ranges out to 540 yards. I have a quarter mile long driveway. Had my pickup parked in the driveway and and my company was shooting with a ski type bipod while standing in the truck box with rifle on the roof of the truck. There was a very good backstop behind the targets. Some cell phone warrior must have driven by and called the law. Sherriff's Deputy arrived on the scene and my company was informed that their actions were unlawful. No citation was written, but they were told if he had to come back there a fine would be levied. I have since corrected the situation by building a shooting platform near the end of my driveway. It is elevated so that it can be utilized even when there is standing corn in the field. It is also in compliance with distance from center of the road requirements. It doesn't get used a lot, but is a hoot to touch a round off as a Spandex attired bicycler passes. :D

"How much do you love me dad"?

That was what my youngest son asked me during muzzle loader season a month or so ago.

"Huh,wtf are you talking about"? Was,I feel, a logical response. How it didn't bust the side or back windows is "the good news"?20181103_194447_resized.jpg

My old neighbor was running around with a bunch of high school buddies. They were driving around and shooting groundhogs. He was sitting in the back seat when someone shot at one. He said he thought he got stung by a bee when his buddy shot off the roof. It went through the roof and hit him in the back of the neck. They took him to the hospital and the Drs said they couldn't remove it. It was near the spinal cord and they feared they could paralyze him if they operated. This was back around 1970 and I am sure the operating precedures were way different then now. He was lucky. Matt
