Phil - It's in 204 Ruger. One of the very first M75 Varmints to be delivered to the U.S. in '06. The thing thrives on RL-10X and both the 32 & 39 SBK and shoots in the .3's. Many, many ground squirrel has been launched with this rig. It's scoped with a Leupold VX3 6.5-20X LR with the VHR reticle and M1 factory elevation adjustment. The factory set trigger is one of the best I've ever used.



I just wish it had a standard box mag instead of the detachable version, as we shoot single shot from the bench to allow barrel cooling between shots, and that mag setup is a pain, otherwise a great shooting Sako.

I use a pedestal and a protector bag at the range and a swiveling Harris bipod and a squeezable bag when dog shooting. I find with the bipod and squeezable bag its much easier to line up on dogs with varying elevations, angles, etc. If the bench isn't long enough to accommodate the bipod a heavy sandbag in the front fits the bill nicely.

I have two set-ups, besides a bipod. I use a Hart table with a Bald Eagle slingshot front rest and bunny ear bag on rear for a table set-up and I also use a McFadden Machine Inc Ultimate Tripod, which is fantastic and stable.

I have Rick's BR Pivot and it can't be beat for stationary shooting in the field. It is somewhat portable but not as easy to move around in the field as this:

The Idleback in this configuration is the perfect compromise of steadiness and portability. An included shoulder strap allows one to carry the chair and your rifle up the ridge or over to the next field quite readily. Sticker shock will scare most but it fills a niche like nothing else in the market and the build quality is very good. My aging butt can sit comfortably in this for hours, using minimal effort to swivel and survey the hunting grounds. It was my 50th birthday present to myself

Question: Did you purchase your idleback rig from the UK or a dealer here in the U.S.? That's a neat 'lil portable arrangement there; very well thought out.

I am the OP and have decided to try the following arrangement. I found a used Shadetree Engineering co-axial top, which is mounted to a Caldwell Rock BR heavy rest. The Shadetree top has a 3" wide Edgewood bag, and I also have another bag for rounded fore end rifles. In the deal, I also got a bag rider system by Evolution Gun Works for the AR15, and a Sinclair front bag rider for my bolt gun. All this along with a Protektor rear bag and heavy sand, should allow the gun to be rock solid along with easy aiming using the co-ax unit. Now, lugging all this stuff to the bench!

I did try a hefty Dog-Gone-Good bag and it was impressively solid. It surprised me. But, it was fairly heavy and bulky and felt I could do as well with the mechanical front co-axial rest.
