Back pain

I abused my back for years, grew up on a ranch and owned my own construction outfit and did stupid things in my younger days. Long story short I ended up having back surgery after 90 days in a wheelchair and a misdiagnosis, went to a better doctor and I credit him with saving my quality of life. I give you that short background for a couple reasons..

If your having back pain and it’s feels like you may have a mechanical problem or nerve pain go find a reputable back doctor and get his opinion or have an MRI. Then go from there. The earlier you deal with it the better your chances of a full recovery.

Secondly look at changing your routine. I’ve learned to do stretches every day. Massage therapy helps me more than anything if I’m dealing with some pain. My operation was successful but I’ll never be what I once was, still grateful for what it did and what I can do. It was looking grim but stretches and massage therapy help me a lot.

Learn to lift properly, lots of online help in that area.

I take breaks when I drive for more than a couple hours. The body wasn’t made for long sessions of sitting, sitting isn’t good for your back. Be disciplined and take a break, stretch out and give your back a break. When I fly I get up and walk every couple hours too, I fly a lot and it helps.

Those are some of things I’d do different if I had a Time Machine. I wish I would have rented some equipment more when I was younger, the miracle of modern hydraulics can save you from a damaged back or you can save a buck like I did have risk surgery down the road.

Glad to see I'm not suffering alone. Had the nerves burned, it did nothing.
Think I'm getting use to the pain. Between L2&L3 the nerve is pinched and Between L4&L5 the same the pain goes down my right leg to my knee. The Doctor told me I need another MRI from my neck down before he can give me a yes or no on what he can do to help me.
Am going shooting this weekend sorry but I'll be 78 next month, and lost my wife two years ago. But I am not ready to quit just yet.

I have worn my back out a few times. I have a fatty edema that I write off as a dependent on my taxes.

Zero degrees of curve in my lower back.

But age has brought me some wisdom. I know that it takes guts to be an organ donor.

And I maintain a youthful outlook because I continue to read at a third grade level.

I was in a Helo crash in 91 and have had compressed L3 issues. I bought a Teater Hang up inversion table. I used it for about 5 years and no more pain. Now just once a month and I feel like a 20 year old kid at 69.
An inversion table is a great pain reliever!
I have one and use it regularly. Decompression really works.

Robbor, ibuprofen within reason, cold or ice packs, recliner if you sit.
Roll to the edge of your bed, drop your legs over the edge, and simultaneously bring your upper body up.
Relying solely on your abs puts big strain on your lower back. Squat or lunge to get to floor, no bending.
Did I say cold and ice packs? Best thing, no meds, no side effects.
Take it very slow for longer than it takes for pain to subside. Let this situation be a warning to you. Fusing vertebrae is really bad! May be a necessity, but you’ll never be the same.

Best regards, Peter.
