I abused my back for years, grew up on a ranch and owned my own construction outfit and did stupid things in my younger days. Long story short I ended up having back surgery after 90 days in a wheelchair and a misdiagnosis, went to a better doctor and I credit him with saving my quality of life. I give you that short background for a couple reasons..
If your having back pain and it’s feels like you may have a mechanical problem or nerve pain go find a reputable back doctor and get his opinion or have an MRI. Then go from there. The earlier you deal with it the better your chances of a full recovery.
Secondly look at changing your routine. I’ve learned to do stretches every day. Massage therapy helps me more than anything if I’m dealing with some pain. My operation was successful but I’ll never be what I once was, still grateful for what it did and what I can do. It was looking grim but stretches and massage therapy help me a lot.
Learn to lift properly, lots of online help in that area.
I take breaks when I drive for more than a couple hours. The body wasn’t made for long sessions of sitting, sitting isn’t good for your back. Be disciplined and take a break, stretch out and give your back a break. When I fly I get up and walk every couple hours too, I fly a lot and it helps.
Those are some of things I’d do different if I had a Time Machine. I wish I would have rented some equipment more when I was younger, the miracle of modern hydraulics can save you from a damaged back or you can save a buck like I did have risk surgery down the road.
