AutoTrickler V4

Question. Does it have to be operated with the phone app or is there built in software that makes it stand alone.
As far as I know it needs the app. I tried the V3 method to set it and it doesn't work. Once a target weight is programmed with the app you can disconnect the phone/tablet and it'll still keep running/dispensing just like the old V2 or V3 .

I see no mention on how to operate without the app in the manual.
Received my V4 yesterday n have it up n running. I am not really I-phone literate so took a couple of tries to get it connected.
I wanted to test it with Varget (308 loads) to see the level of consistency.
Am not sure what settings I should have for the large, small tube. And the transition wt. ?

Have been checking the thrown charge wts. on my Sartorious 503 and so far I cannot get the +/- .02 gr. on my 46.51 target.

Thought some of u might have an answer. I also PMed Adam.

Yeah, I don't know who Alan is and why/how he can help you. Perhaps you meant Adam?

I have been using the V4 for a couple of months now and just finished another loading session with it yesterday. I have never had any problem with the app on my Samsung smartphones and tablets. It installed easily and has been updating regularly since it first came out some years back with the V3.

I am also using Varget (for now) in my .308 match loads. I am a stickler for making sure the balance is level according to the built-in bubble level. I make sure the V4 unit is installed as per the user manual. The only adjustment I made is to go from 5 to 6 on the speed slider. I ran a calibration and then I went ahead and loaded 135 cases in about 1 hours, to the kernel as is my wont. I always keep a little plate with some kernels on the side and will throw in one if the V4 stops a x.28 instead of x.30. I will also remove kernels if the weight is above x.32. I use plastic tweezers for that.

I have noticed that sometimes the V4 takes a long time to drop the last few kernels. I will drop one through the front powder drop from above it and watch the light come on. I can see the kernels in the small tube just not making it to the drop zone. I fine-tuned the set up and increased to 6 and that took care of it.

I really like this machine. It's quiet compared to the V3, and it's well thought out. I like watching the main tube spin in reverse for about a half turn after it's finished dispensing its load. Yeah, loading ammo can be mind-numbing, yet you have to continually pay attention while doing so.

I was a beta tester and can say that the app, even in its early versions, works flawlessly. I downloaded it on a cheap Microsoft tablet and my iPhone 12 with zero problems.

The tilt of your scale will effect how the kernels drop. There is really not much to do with the final version of the app. Set it up. Add powder. Calibrate it. Load powder. You can speed up or slow down the large or small tube if you like to fine tune for the particular powder you are using. Don’t be afraid to do this if needed. You will not break anything.

Also, if your powder is generally not dropping fast enough, your scale is tilted to far back. If your powder is dropping tin fast and you can’t adjust it out, your scale is tilted too far forward.

Just found out that my Samsung Tab4 complains that the Autotricker app is not compatible!!??##$

Strange, I tried searching and downloading the app on my old cracked-screen Samsung Tab A tablet and it downloaded successfully and worked on the tricker! There must be some setting on my Tab 4 that is preventing it to find the app on Google Play.

Getting the app up n running on my I-phone was no problem.
I set the unit up as per Adams excellently presented instructions.
loaded the hopper with Varget n set the app at 46.51 gr. Out of 35 charges thrown only 14 were in the 46.50 to 46.54 range.
I am going to check it at the 6 mm brx level n see how it does. It seems as if I need to find the fine tune settings to get the charge weights to fall in line. Right now the variation is too much.

My wife tells me mine arrive this morning via UPS. With the snow storms we are having I was for sure it would be delayed. Thankfully it wasn’t!

You need to calibrate it. It's outlined in the manual

Bob,
You shouldn’t have to mess around with those settings. On the app make sure you use “calibrate” so the dispenser can adjust to the powder type you are using. Once that’s done you can play with a slider on the app. I have found it works best between 5 and 7 on the slider.
