Australian F Class Team needs your help

Hi All

Just wondering if someone could help us out.

We need a pickup truck, duel cab, with lockable canopy to transport 5 members of the Aussie F class team with all our gear around while in Raton New Mexico shooting the Worlds and Nationals.

5 of us are flying into Denver Colorado on Mon August 12th 2013 at 15.50 and would like to pick up the truck when we arrive. We are then travelling to Raton, shooting our competition, then travelling on to LA sight seeing along the way.

We fly out from LA airport September 4th 2013 at 23.30, and will leave the truck at the airport.

What we need is a Ford F250 duel cab or Ram/Dodge, or something similar.

Could someone help us buy/borrow a truck

A couple of possible options would be to:

1 Help us buy a truck in Denver for around $3000-$5000 and then sell it in LA.

2 Lend us a truck and we pay you $$$, while also paying for airline tickets for you and your partner to fly out to LA to pick up the truck to drive it back to Denver.

3 Any other plan that you can think of. ;D ;D ;D

You can email me on stuart@supremeprinters.com.au
Thanks
Regards,
Stuart

Stuart, Wish I lived out there to help you out, considering your generous compensation offer, I am sure someone will step forwards and help you guys out...

Hi All
I have a third plan
No. 3 If someone could recommend a reputable car yard so we can buy a Ford F250 duel cab or Ram/Dodge, or something similar for about $3000 - $5000 from them :)
regards Stuart

PS thanks Rod

I have family in Denver that may be able to help you find something. I will make a few calls today and see if they can recommend a dealer. My nephew knows the town well and should know where to shop. I will email you any information I find.

I just called my sister and she is going to help with this project. She knew several people to call that are in the business and has time to work on this right away. I gave her your email and she will contact you soon.

It may be easier to rent a cargo van from Uhaul http://www.uhaul.com/reservations/RatesTrucks.aspx
and then rent a car from one of the normal rental agencies you find at any airport.

This may help you out in a few ways:
1) No need to sell the truck in a hurry
2) No need to purchase auto insurance for the truck, and I do not know how easy that would be when your addresses and residencies are not in the US
3) Any breakdowns you may have are covered by the rental agencies, this may be a great help instead of buying a used lower end truck

Just an idea,

Rentals look like the best option considering everything, I don't see us finding anything reliable in the price range we are looking at. My sister travels alot with her work and is continually renting vehicle's. Once we see some figures I believe you guys are right about this.
Can you drive here with a license from another country?

Hi All
Thanks for all your input much appreciated
I will need an International drivers licence for the US
One big problem is relocation cost because we are pickuing up from Denver and dropping off in LA. One hire company charge $750 for relocation cost
How do you get a hired tralier back to Denver from LA???? not even game to ask how much that would be
Hiring a RV would not be practical with 5 men and all our shooting gear especially when we travel to Vagas and LA
I'll keep looking
Regards Stuart

You can rent U-Haul trailers one way. And if they happen to have too many in the Denver area and too few in the LA area you can get a really good deal. When we sold our house in Phoenix, AZ and moved into a motorhome, we sold most of our furniture except what the kids in Ohio wanted. Then we rented a one way trailer and hauled that furniture to Ohio. They give you so many days to make the trip but I assume you can negotiate a few extra days.

U-haul is a nation wide rental chain in our country and is widely used. My sister is a very smart girl and will do her best to get you the best deal she can find. She is forwarding all correspondence so I know what is being discussed.

Hi again all
Ive looked at U-Haul web site and all I can see is 2 seater utes/ trucks/vans we need 5 seats I couldn't see anything else ???
I have been emailing your sister lmmike and she has been very helpful she is looking into a few things for me now, really appreciate what she is doing
Regards Stuart

I'd say go with a U-Haul trailer and Rental SUV from one of the companies.

Whittington Center is a nice place, but in case you want to hit the town after a successful match, you probably don't need to haul your trailer too.

Yes, agree with mac. Rent a SUV from Budget, Avis, Hertz, etc, and rent a trailer from U-Haul http://www.uhaul.com/Trailers/ . Rent both one way Denver to LA, but if the drop off charge is too much for the SUV, maybe you can find someone on here wanting to drive from LA back to Denver.
I don't know if SUVs are rented that already have a hitch installed. U-Haul rents hitches that clamp to bumpers - at least the old style bumpers. Anyway, if you go with the rental & trailer, make sure there is a way to tow the trailer.

So far we have located large SUV's with avis rentals in Aurora,CO. Excursions and a few others. Everyone is welcome to join in on the search for good deals as I hear there are rental sales occasionally when they have too many at a location. I wish I was closer so I could use my resources. We still have time to look further into this.

with liability insurance you may NOT want to rent something that SOMEONE ELSE is to return after you are finished with it, if they have an accident you will be sued, and what happens if someone else hits them, it is still an accidnet, too much risk to involve another to return the vehicle

That is a big problem with getting a loaner. We even had a offer to drive them around but that's not going to work. The rentals are the best bet.

Hi All
Good news we have hired a Ford E350 12 seater van from Avis big enough for 5 blokes with all our gear
Thankyou all for your input and a big thankyou to Immike sister for organising the whole thing and getting us a good deal through Avis she was fantastic and so helpful, looking forward to meeting her and thanking her when we get over there in August
Kind Regards Stuart
