I had a similar experience with a brake, except mine discolored....Here is a visual reference to what CLR does to stainless. If you use it, be careful, lol. This will etch stainless. Pictured is a SS barrel drop. The matte finish on the one side is etched with CLR. IMO, keep it out of your bore.View attachment 1207008
U.S. Marines at Chosin Reservoir peed on their M1's to thaw them out. Must be good stuffyou know you gave me an idea. I wonder if piss would make a good cleaning agent. it kills grass rusts steel. has to work on measly carbon![]()
Lactic Acid is also a component of yogurt, anyone tried using yogurt to clean their barrels? LOL
Yeah,I had a bolt seize in action, after ride from ny to Missouri for last years rendezvous. I was heading to benches, checked rifle and bolt would not move..finally got it out with a mallet. Completely corroded,,,went back to Borden for nitride coating,,,,never againYep, I stopped using it after soaking a bolt in it for a few minutes...
yes sir!! we keep resuscitating old posts so not only are we running out of material but popcorn as well!!Dang I need more popcorn![]()
Okay, lemme try to download some pics of my barrel(s) for you.Sorry. I challenge whether Hoppes, no matter how long its' soaking in the barrel, removes all the carbon as observed through a borescope.
Yeah, right.Thats a lot of carbon. Try the boretech carbon remover and a bronze brush. Itll come out
