It's 115-120 here this time of year. I MUST shoot when it's just light enough to see. Scope is too dark at ANY power unless sun is out and on target, then it is definitely worth the $$$$.
I'm sure it works for anybody that doesn't live in SW AZ and owns my eyes.

Just my 2 cents... probably worth what you paid for it.
I have had both generations of the Ares scope. Returned Gen 1 when I found myself having to adjust the extremely sensitive paralax after every shot. Further @ 200Y I was nearly out of paralax adjustment.
Gen 2 still has the sensitive Paralax. I use the giant wheel to try and help, and it does. I don't find myself having to adjust it all the time, so I guess my Gen 1 was defective.
I dont think they changed the glass as I find Gen 2 no better or worse clarity wise then Gen 1. They did change the turrets so my 3D printed mini paralax knob I used on Gen 1 is useless.
As noted I agree the scope definitely struggles some for me late in the day when the shadows get long.
All in all for about a grand I think it's a good deal/scope. I favor a fine rectile so this fits the bill. If a couple / three grand fell in my hand I might replace it. However I don't see that happening any time soon.
P.S. Just to be clear, when my Gen 1 went back to Athlon for service, they replaced it with a Gen 2.
Can't ask for better customer service. Turn around was only a couple of weeks.

OH! Something I forgot to mention. The eye box is tight on this model. I know, everyone says that these days on these Chinese scopes. On this model I have it set as far back on the rings and rail as it can go.
