Asking for a friend, your opinions, insight

Hows about a 45/70 Siamese Mauser. Fairly inexpensive guns. Capable of launching 500 grain bullets at near 458 Win Mag velocities.:p
I considered telling him to update my 460 Lott Hornet Improved into a modern BR rifle, say a Martini or even a new Fangled Ruger #1, but he doesn't seem to be the type to appreciate the more refined esoteric offerings in our humble sport.

The repeatable cold bore shot, that's where you need to focus, i feel.
You don't need a 12lb rifle to do that.
I have a stock Savage 111 in 7mm Rem Mag.
My hunting load is the 150gr Nosler ABLR over RL26.
Went to range near me that goes to 1,000 yards.
The USMC had rented the range for the week. I asked if i could shoot also and was told yes, they were shooting 600 yards prone.
Set my target up. 600 yards prone off my pack and fired 1 shot.
When shooting stopped, i retrieved my target & left.
Next day i did the same. And again the next.
A couple of Marines were looking at me funny, but the Gunny just smiled & nodded his head.

Those 3 cold bore shots were 3/4 MOA.
And now i KNOW that i can connect out to 600 yards cold bore.
My longest hunting shot is 413 yards on a doe with my 7mm-08AI using 140gr Berger VLD-H. She made it 20 yards.

One day i hope to go out west to hunt elk.
Ran accross a previously enjoyed Forbes 24B in 280 Rem. Weight scoped is right around 7 lb. I have no issue what so ever using it with the 150 ABLR, or Ballistic Tip out to 500 yards.

Sometimes, "if it ain't broke", still works. I shot the same combo 7RM and 150 NBTs to 350yds. Today, I'd probably consider the 168 ABLR just because I could.
