As a kid, what gun did you dream of owning?

I used to go in mom and dads bedroom and just stare up at the gunrack above the bed. It had a mod.70, 1886 win, mod. 88 284, mod. 12 . Used to dream about em. I got into guns early. Got my first shotgun 870 20 guage at 8. Dad let me put one shell in it. Doug

My dad's 1873 Winchester in .44-40, his Colt Peacemaker, also in .44-40, and the Colt 1903 that was his sidearm during service in the Navy at the end of WWII. Shot all extensively as a kid and was promised them on his death. Unfortunately his shrew of a 3rd wife did not honor his intentions, and sold them (along with the rest of his firearms) before his death (he had dementia).

Red Ryder BB gun. My Dad not only said no but HELL NO! I did get a Crossman pump BB gun a few years later but didn't acquire a Red Ryder until I retired. I know understand why my Dad didn't think it was a good idea to turn a 7 year old heathen loose with one. He did purchase for me a High Standard Military Citation when I was in Jr High and a Series 70 Colt Gold Cup when I graduated from High School, both which I still have. He paid $200 for the Guld Cup in 1976, new in the box.
Smart pop you had. good taste too! Military Citation is a special firearm just like the GC.

4 3/4" Colt SAA in 45 Colt and a Winchester 30-30.
Neither of which I have ever owned and now that I know a little bit more, never will. Both completely unsuitable for my hunting and pleasure target practice.

Ithica model 49 as well and U can see it from here! I got it when I was 9 for my birthday. I'm 69 now. I can stll remember going into town and looking at it in western auto. I can't remember the price but it was mid 20's

My dad was in WWII and although he hunted small game in the Midwest with a shotgun, he didn’t have any interest in shooting. I think the war affected how he viewed rifles n pistols. That said, he did bring home three pistols as war souvenirs.
He let me use his single shot 20 ga. Rabbit hunting but it took quite awhile for me to talk him into a 22. I didn’t have much money cutting lawns so a Mossberg 22 was my first rifle.
I think the Shooters Bible page that listed the Remington 700V in 22/250 was pretty dog eared as I truly lusted after one of those. God bless Herters for selling 10X Weavers at an affordable price. Once again on a budget, I paired a Weaver with a REM. 788 in 22/250 n leveled havoc on the local groundhog population.

Where do I start. Now in my 70's, I think that I have or did own all of my "dreaming of Jeanie" guns. My first gun that I bought with my money as a golf caddie was a Remington 870 DELUXE. I used to go into Marshal Fields department store, can you believe an upper end department store, would sell guns?? They had an 870 deluxe in 12 gauge.I would drool over the flying duck on the grip cap and the beautiful checkering. A neighbor knew a guy with an FFL so I paid $76.70 for it.
Now as an adult I have re purchased some of the guns I foolishly sold. Nylon 66, .22 Jet revolver, Remington 700 in .300 H & H.
Brings back a lot of pleasant memories!

A Model 70 Winchester in 30-06. After all these years that hasn't changed for me.

My grandfather had one, hunted with it in Wyoming for years with his brother. Beautiful gun, with the proverbial "smooth as buttah" action. Don't know for certain what happened with it, when he passed, though I suspect my great uncle got it.

300 Weatherby Mark 5 in that shiny wood stock that Roy put in all the gun magazines. Some bank advertised if you gave them like 2000-3000 dollars for 5 years you could get the rifle in lieu of interest… just didn’t have the money as a 10 Y/O kid!! unfortunately still don’t for that purpose so never owned the big 300 !! ☹️
That was the bank of Boulder in Colorado!
My uncle told me they were the biggest Weatherby dealer in the world, never fact checked it though. I used that bank until it got bought out. Never had an extra 5 grand I could be without for 10 years back then.
