Are you ready for the dog towns??

On our way back to Pa from our yearly Wyoming prarie dog week. Shot on all private land from Sunday to Thursday. Wind was an issue the first 2 days cause the places we shot it was hard to setup with the wind at our backs, but we made do.
The last 3 days there was almost no wind for most of the day. Most shots were inside of 400yds and we murdered them! We were shooting a large new town that had never been shot. Shots ranged from 30yds to about 1400yds. My friend and I spotted and ranged for each other for a while and did have personal best distance kills of 1114yds(me) and 1150yds(him). Both of us shooting 6br’s with 105 Amax.
Overall a great trip with great weather and catching up with friends and ranchers we’ve known for 20 years.

Just got back yesterday from southern Colorado. Lots of dogs and great shooting. Wind is always blowing so just dealt with it. 7.5 moa cross blow at 495, still hammered em. Mostly shot 22/250, and 223. Killed about 50 with 6br. It's almost like cheating

Equipment failure. I’ve had these for many years and the push button for the laser range finder just deteriorated while I went to use them. Called Swarovski and they said it was not an item I could repair myself. So I’m out doggin with no range finder. I have to mail them back to RI and they will ship them back to Austria. 6-8 weeks. If you own these probably want to check them over B4 hunting.

I shipped these to Swarovski and they shipped to Austria. Sent me notification they would repair at no charge. I received them back last week.. Better than new..

Making a second run to SD in Sept. I think I'm only taking 2 rifles, going to only shoot from my death grip, 2-3 days should be solid practice for winter coyote.

Man I wish I could take a second trip, our trip was fantastic! We shot a lot on f dogs and the guide was top notch. More than anything we learned a ton about our equipment and what to do better next time. E

Looking for answer re morning wind conditions. In the southern part of Colorado where it is rolling plains, are mornings less windy than later in the day?

Yes most times it’s much calmer in the morning…wind usually starts picking up by 11-12 when it starts getting warmer…but it’s the plains so there are many many days where it blows all dang day

Older thread but I will respond. Generally, mornings and evenings will have less wind. Will try to get as much shooting with a 17hmr or 17 WSM as possible until wind picks up. When it warms up, you are going to want a little wind to keep cool and sometimes keep the bugs down. Just our experience in Nebraska, Wyoming and the Dakotas.
