I'm preparing to buy a scope for my long range gun,.260). The NightForce scopes certainly look great, but are expensive, as are the Mk 4 Leupold LR scopes. If I'm only shooting targets at 600 yards and maybe 1000 yards, what is the benefit to buying a more expensive variable power scope instead of a fixed power say in 30X.
Also, what is the benefit to buying a variable power Leupold Mk 4 LRT scope instead of the cheaper variable VX3 Long Range with side focus? The Mk4 goes for about $1,200 and the VX3 about $900.
I'm shooting with a 20MOA base, if it makes a difference. While I'd love to buy the NightForce, if it is overkill for what I need, I'd rather save my bucks.
Advice? Thanks, guys.
