White Oak Armament had some smoking SPR barrel deals earlier this week... so I got a new Aero upper and a 20 inch SPR barrel.

The barrel extension measured .997 at the breech end... and .9998 at the shouldered end... The last 1/8th of an inch of insertion was a big snug.

Best I can measure the upper, it was just under an inch depending where I measured.

There's a match at the range today, so I will try and gather up the ammo I have (Mix of factory and handloaded stuff) and go shoot some groups tomorrow.

Then lap and bed it... and return for the same tests.

Aaron - How about including some handloads that you know shoot well in a 20" barrel?

I'm thinking, if there's a difference in accuracy, it might show better in smaller groups?

That's good to know that they do that. I normally do basically the same by fitting the bbl to the block on one piece blocks but I still like to use a drop of blue or purple on those, even being a "slip" fit. Some of the cheaper blocks are two piece but they do a better job of sealing as they wrap around the bbl good when tightened up. Kinda like most scope rings are meant to do. Lots of pressure there, varying with gas systems and such but a good seal isn't a given, even with a good fit. We just do the best we can on things like that and it works fine. I don't do a ton of ar work but I like a good ar build too. Starting on a 22 ARC build next week.

FWIW, I've heard that a saami 22 ARC is coming soon but it'll be Grendel length, IIRC. So really, a saami 22 Grendel. The one I'm starting on will use 6 ARC headspace gauges so it'll not be the saami version.

No problem. Waiting on a good day to get to the range. Lots of competitions in the fall at our club so the range is closed.

I use Loctite 620.

From a quick search it looks like permatex sleeve retainer is their equivalent go loctite 620. So basically been doing the same thing as you for a good while. Ive not tried the the spray on type of shim to build up the difference but I might try that.

Tripping over the gun, ammo, and bags for the trip. Range got busy to weekend competitions, I got busy with the day job and completing a pilots license. It might be Christmas by the time I get it done, but I will get it done.

Man, the "Crap I don't need" projects really got in the way of this one. So I packed up for the first half of the test!

All fired @ 200, in the blazing sun, in black shirt black pants. Light wind. Semi-rapid type fire. No flags, just the hair on my ass.
