Ar 15 barrel at Urbarrifleman

We have not used the 88 yet…… been wanting to though. We have been using 75 grain eldm’s & 80 SMK’s….. good results.

Really looking forward some higher BC Bullets though
Andy- I had a 22” space gun with a +2” gas tube, Kreiger 1:7 chambered by Keystone in Wylde. It had enough freebore I could shoot 88’s successfully out to 1000. It was a stout load of 8208 I set at 0.010” jump… and I never reused the brass. lol. .

This was first time at 800 yards in a Palma match from sling. First ten were really good. Then I got behind the wind.

There are a few variations that I will have available.

Service rifle 20 inch 5/8x 24 threaded muzzle (7 twist)
Service rifle 20 inch standard crown (7 twist)

Match rifle 24 inch 5/8 x 24 threaded muzzle (8 twist) .875" gas block
Match rifle 26 inch 5/8 x 24 threaded muzzle (8 twist) .875" gas block

All are 223 Wylde chambers.

Are the match rifle barrels rifle length gas system or +2" systems?

I am surprised that the match rifle barrels aren't offered with faster twist to shoot the long/heavies. Even though i have never competed in service rifle/match rifle, i would think that for the 1000 yard line, a long barrel and fast twist would be wanted for 90-95 grain bullets. Do 80s out of an 8" twist with the added velocity perform much less than 90-95s out of a 7 or 6.5" twist?

Over spinning as in jacket failure? So the cure would be to use bullets with thicker jackets.
It's not the jacket per se. It's the heat that melts/softens the lead along with some roughness in the bore. RPM's just add another factor to having the bullet go poof.

All that said, why limit your choice of bullets just to have a faster twist?

I do understand what you mean, but I don't know if I wholly believe in the "over spinning"......I have shot well made jacketed bullets in the 50 grain weight range out of 7" twist barrels and had zero issues. Then I have had 52 grain bullets go poof 25 feet or so from the muzzle in the same barrel. I have shot 168 and 175 grain bullets out of 8" twist .308 barrel with phenomenal accuracy and I believe 12" twist is the norm with those.

Bearing surface also plays a factor from bullet to bullet
More contact = More heat generated within the core

The 50 grainers that survived a 7 twist, may have had less bearing surface than the 52's that went poof

IIRC, they were Sierra 52s. But, anyhow......I remember an old coworker that used to shoot a Medesha match rifle in competition that had a 6.5" twist krieger that hammered 80 grain sierras and for some reason, he never shot the 90s.

I didn't order barrel blanks, I ordered finished barrels.
Cool….ETA on Finished Barrels?

I’m really looking forward to one of the Match Barrels. I will have to have it cut down to 22” and recrowned though.

I have had really good results from Wilson Arms finished barrels with 75-80 SMK’s and Hornady 75 HPBT….. in 2023 at NRA Mid-Range Nationals…. Shot 99.5% over 240 shots for the win in AR-Tactical with an 18”. 1/8 twist Wylde chambered Wilson Arms barrel.

Ready to order whenever you begin taking orders.
