Ar 15 barrel at Urbarrifleman

I’ve had them blow up in situations where their competitors never do.
Yeah, I've pretty much given up using a Hornady on anything going over 3000 fps.
it's a waste for the gamble just to try to save a little bit of money
and if they poof even 1/10 times, there is really no money savings
and certainly adds an aspect of frustration to the equation which I think is better to simply avoid
(Dont know how many times I had to go downrange to verify if another bullet hole appeared in the target only to see)
Nope
I'd use Matchburners wayyyy before a Hornady in that situation
---
seems to be fine in guns that I have seen going 2850 fps or less though
such as Eld-m's etc.

What bullet are you shooting in match rifle that would require a 7 twist?
I’d like to shoot the 88 ELD-M’s or the 90 grain A-Tip’s out off a 22” barrel.

Currently, we are shooting 75 ELD-M’s & 80 SMK’s out to 1000 at Camp Perry (E-Targets pick up subsonic’s there).

Our 75 ELD-M load is only supersonic at Sealevel SOMETIMES….. we can’t shoot it on Shotmarker targets at 1000 yards.

New rules allow up to 22” barrels…… I believe the combination of the 2” additional barrel length and a higher BC/heavier bullet and we should be fine on the ShotMarkers at sealevel (1000 yards).

I use them in my 22 arc Ar but I’m well below max book data as pushing pressure on a grendle boltface ar is not good juju.

If you do start making AR barrels definitely consider a SPR/mark 12 profile, there’s a pretty solid group of mk12 dorks and we tend to appreciate a better quality barrel and know it’s not cheap.
Consider a gas port option, 101-.103 (for patrols on your Tauntaun) for the full clone dorks or a gamer gun port that runs .088-. 094. That purrs like cat woman after a bottle of Boones farm.

I'm not sure how you would shoot either of those out of a Wylde chamber. It seems to me you would be seated way into the curved part of the bullet.

I’m good with whatever chamber you recommend ……I trust your experience and expertise.

Across the course has limitations.

In a bolt gun, my 88 grain Hornady and 90 SMK chamber is 230 thou freebore. A standard service rifle chamber is about 60 thou. Because of mag feeding.

I'm not really sure a course rifle is going to work with those bullets. The Wylde chamber is really only suited to 80 grain bullets max. From my experience.

I believe Gary Elisio told me they shoot 80 eldms and shoot the same scores as the heavies. His response to me was shooting the 90s was too finicky.

That would be my guess on trying to stuff a 90 down into a 223 case almost a quarter inch. It would be very finicky.

AR-Tactical is only shot in Prone Slow Fire (single feed)…… we are good with longer than mag lengths

FWIW. AR Tactical is not part of cross the course.
In cross the course, the heaviest bullet most use is one of the 80 grain bullets. And, of course, they are shot single load.
As UR mentioned, the Wylde chamber was designed for 'cross the course'. I'm sure some people are shooting 88's but I think that is a small %. I'm pretty sure people are winning at 600 because they are using the 88.

We have not used the 88 yet…… been wanting to though. We have been using 75 grain eldm’s & 80 SMK’s….. good results.

Really looking forward some higher BC Bullets though

You know, the last exchange between ELR LVR and myself got me to thinking.
The number of spaceguns in cross the course is probably less than 10% of the number in Service Rifle.
And, many of the spaceguns are in something other than 223.

=> market for 22-26" ar15 223 barrels with a match contour is pretty small - regardless of twist.

I pretty much got the match barrels for pdog shooters. But we will see who asks for the barrels turned down for front sights :)

Ah. That's a very small % of spacegunners. The vast majority are using optics these days.

And, yeah, PD shooters are, I think, a much [much?] larger number than 223 spacegunners.

Seems reasonable
I prefer the 80’s in my 22 arc as well.
