Anyone using VV N550 in 7-08

Landed a good deal on a 8 pounder of N550. Looks like it will fall right in wheelhouse of 7-08 Rem.

My 140 to 162 gr reloads to this point have been with either Varget or H4350. Some H380 occasionally.

Anyone have some N550 data that’s worked for them? I ll work up to anything that you share so please put your results out here.

Thx much.

It would possibly be ok with the heavy bullets.
Not sure what the case fill would look like, or how long your freebore is.
If your freebore is long enough to seat the bullet out, would be better.

Vihtavouri may have some reload data on their website.

Based on my experience with N550 and H4350 in 308Win with heavyweights and H4350 in 7-08 with 140s I’d guess with 100% fill you’d get decent velocity with heavies in the 7-08.

Obviously I’d suggest you find some reloading data and work up.

Personally, even with a long throat I found H4350 slower than I wanted with 140 class bullets. I use 2000MR for my hunting loads.

The 162 Eldm at .020 off my lands is 2.930” oal so I ve got plenty of powder room. The 140 and 150 grain bullets at 2.850” to touch lands start getting a little tighter ghter on powder space but still think 2750 and 2850 gps respectively are doable with N550.

The 162 s I m thinking 2650, maybe 2675 fps will be about it. I m only running a 22” barrel.

comparing it to H4350 in a long-throat 7-08 under the 160gn Sierra TMK.

Note, N550 is in practice much 'quicker' than either burn rate charts or QuickLOAD's default values indicate, so as stated in the report, QL calculations are well out, and in the wrong direction too. Think of it as closer to VarGet than H4350. It's certainly usable in the 7mm-08 with 140s to 160s, although I always used the slower N160 in the cartridge with the 160gn TMK when I campaigned an F-Class rifle chambered for it. (The fairly new N555 introduced since that time, is likely about ideal for this bullet weight.)

I also use 2000 in my 168 load for 7-08
