Anyone Re-barreled a Remington Model 7 or 700 in 300 Blackout to 221 Fireball?

I have a Remington Model 7 in 300 Blackout that I want to get re-barreled to .221 Remington Fireball.

Has anyone done this with either a Remington Model 7 or 700, that was originally a 300 Blackout?

I just want to find out if anyone has had any issues with feeding or extraction after re-barreling a Remington 300 Blackout to 221 FB.

I have read where those that have re-barreled Model 7 or 700 that were not originally a .221 Fireball have had extraction issues.

Also, any advice on twist, I am planning on 1:10 since I want to play around downloading it (to as low as 1,700 fps), and also want to use up to 60 grain bullets (6o grain, Sierra TMK).

Thanks in Advance,

Jerry

Someone once told me the BO bolt had a different angle of ejection of the fired case. Any truth to that?

Guys,

Thanks for the re-assurance.

I did not think that there would be any problems since it's the same case, but kinda wanted to make sure before I plunked a bunch of coin down.

Just a heads up, I've got two 300 Blackouts (gonna keep one so chambered), the first one I ordered when Remington via AAC produced the Model 7 in 300 BO, The very first ones had issues, I don't recall but think it was feeding. And of course mine had problems, I sent it back and they replaced the rifle. The first ones were marked AAC on the receiver, don't know what the serial number was when they corrected the problem, If needed, I could give the serial number on mine... all after (and some before) had the issue corrected.

Thank You,

Jerry

On the Model 7's and 700's, the 221FB and 17 Fireball extractor* is positioned in a different spot on the bolt face than other .378 bolt face actions (223, etc) to help with ejecting the short case.

Seems reasonable that the ejector position on an original 300BR would be in the same spot but I would sure verify it. With a non-221 bolt held so the ejector is at 12:00, a 221 based ejector will be about 2:00. The 221 cases used a different follower that pitched the bullet more upward to assist in feeding from the magazine, too.

Hope this helps. -Al

* Edited to correct: extractor rather than ejector.

If the picture in this discussion is correct, the ejector appears to be in the same location on both bolts. The extractor is what has a different location.

That's certainly different than the factory 221 I have. -Al

The extractor on my 300 BO bolt is in the same position as the 221 FB extractor in the 20 VT Repeater thread.

Appreciate you linking the thread

I wonder if a Mini-M16 extractor with the higher ejection angle may be a plus if a regular .223 bolt face is being used in a conversion to a .221 Fireball. Just a thought.

Here's another photo showing the different extractor locations on the standard .223 vs Fireball M700 bolts. I've been curious as well where the extractor is located on the factory 700 Blackout actions.

Here is a picture of my Defiance bolt.
