Anyone like racing?

It all worked great until it didn't work. ;-(

Alas, Pikes Peak is not the same. You were in on the glory days before it was completely paved.

I came down Pikes Peak on my Harley before it was paved all the way with no rear brake.....only came close to crashing a couple of times while shifting down and using front brake. Pucker time. Once when shifting down and feathering the front brake at the same time I lucked out and the back tire slid just at the right time and I made it around the curve, just missing a nasty ditch.

Huh, I never thought about everyone having to drive down Pikes Peak. It always seemed like a one-way trip.

Is that right. I helped around Eddie Hill's shop in Wichita Falls, Tx in 1961 and 1962. Eddie was building a twin engine Pontiac dragster with an aluminum tubing frame. The chassis used the engine as part of the chassis. Seems as Eddie had an engineering degree and at that time did everything himself. He was a one man shop. Eddie had a 1961 Pontiac Venturi SS car and a jet dragster. I believe he had help from Pontiac at the time. Eddie and his first wife lived in a house trailer with a pretty nice shop behind his house.
Both Eddie and his wife were very nice and quiet people.
Eddie Hill - The "Four Father"
A great racer.

I saw this live at the Reno Air Races, through binoculars. The Thunder Mustang had engine failure and pilot was making a dead-stick landing in 30-kt gusts, was blown off the runway, hit a berm, and cartwheeled. Pilot walked away.
