In my 78 years I’ve NEVER seen an organization or club in which MAYBE 10% of the membership didn’t do 90-95% of the work.I joined there shortly before they closed.
Learned a lot about a Model 25 I had recently purchased.
Seems a lot of sites are having issues remaining open.Kinda cultural thing I believe.
Many people that want the info but not many that want to contribute.
Not just online but in real life also.
I belong to 2 organizations that are member supported.
A Ham radio club that the majority are mostly older members but has an active participation rate.
And a Shooting club that has aprox. 2500 members.
Never seen more than 50 members present at our monthly meetings and even with a discount on our dues for volunteer work its usually the same core members doing all the work.
Had a work party for last weekend and only 2 of us showed up.
Very very sad .
The site didn't suddenly shut down or get killed by facebook or any other entity. The owner of the site was just ready to retire from the daily grind of maintaining it. IIRC it was active for over 20 years. He kept the forum active simply due to his devotion to the Savage products and willingness to help those of us who owned those products.
For those who don't know, maintaining a forum is a never ending task. Keeping out the viruses, hackers and cons is a huge drain on time and resources. Add in the issues with maintaining (or paying for) server space, keeping software and hardware up to date, and then just 'normal' site maintenance such as admitting new members and managing issues between members. Not something very many people will take on.
Ok, maybe so, but Facebookie still sucks....The site didn't suddenly shut down or get killed by facebook or any other entity.
Many of us became more active here since the shutdown. There are some that didn't and I miss connecting with them.I’m sure it was a good site. I suppose people get on forums to socialize as well as get information. Plenty of savage enthusiasts here to mingle with, it’ll be alright.
This site is going to have to take the place of the Savage forum mentioned, and the Saubier.com forum until it's back up after maintenance is completed.I’m sure it was a good site. I suppose people get on forums to socialize as well as get information. Plenty of savage enthusiasts here to mingle with, it’ll be alright.
