Anyone have Hornady snapsafe vault door?

I have a couple of friends that have Safe Rooms in their homes. One is a FFL, his room was the first thing build when he built his house, everything else was built around it. In all cases, the cinder blocks are highly reinforced with large rebar running through it and cross welded at various points along the vertical. The ceiling also are cement with a lot of rebar to reinforce the structure. A simple jack hammer won't help much unless you add a torch to cut the rebar as you encounter it. They wouldn't tell me much more than that other than to say, the design is more of a bank vault than a cement wall room.
I agree with the other members. You shouldn't provide too much information here on line. It would be easy enough for thugs to find this thread or any other media you discuss this on. I have seen my wife look up people on line and in about 30 minutes know more about them than anyone would care to imagine.
Your project is one that I would also like to put into my next home. For many reasons. Although I doubt that it will be in my budget. But you never know!

I have nothing fancy as far as firearms. All factory stuff. The almost mansion next to me has a much better firearm selection. My other neighbor is a LEO.

Don't have my door installed yet and I'm defiantly going to have humidity problems in July and August with september yet to be determined (all part of living where I live I guess). The far back corner is damp on wall about a foot up from floor and about 2.5 sq foot of floor. That is the coolest part I am assuming. What do you guys with masonry rooms do for humidity control? What type of dehumidifier do you use. Had I pre planned better I could have left a vent for the AC system. Also throw some ideas out for racks. Thanks.

I know of one basement safe room built back into the earth with several inches of concrete enclosing it. Just a few incandescent light bulbs keep the humidity in control.

If an expert criminal comes for your stuff , he will have it.... A regular safe can be opened in minutes with about $50 worth of stuff from harbor freight... To me it is much more important to limit the time they have to work.... I recommend a home alarm to limit the amount of time they have , if not they have all day while you're at work etc.... If you have a home alarm please don't put the little signs etc in your yard or on your windows telling them what to do and what to bring to disable your alarm.. if you have a safe actually mount it so it can't be moved or turned to get to the back of it..

Not to mention a home alarm protects you , your family , plus your valuable things while your sleeping and you get a break on your home owners insurance.. it's like having someone watch your stuff and your family that never sleeps , gets tired or sick or just plain lazy... Mine went off once , it was my fault I was seeing how high I could get the sensors with out a false alarm.... I was 25 miles aways heading home from the gun range when I got the phone call that 1 minute ago a motion sensor tripped in my house... I got there , cleared the house ( iam ex-leo ) and still had to wait on the police to show up... Normally their response time out here in the county is very fast , but not that day....

With modern alarm systems you not only get burglary protection , you also get smoke alarms , freeze and flood protection , not to mention real time video etc... The options are endless almost... The things you can do with them and a smartphone are amazing... There's so many options out there for alarms that doing your research just like when buying a safe us a must.... Pros and cons for all of them....

As someone that lives in the crime capital of the world this is it. There is no safe that will keep them out if they have time. I have seen big expensive safes opend with nothing more than tools they found in the house they were robbing and if they get it on its side or get in the back its like opening a can, obviously here a human life is worth less than nothing so its quicker just to come for the safe when the owners are home so they can open it for you....

I think you just answered my problem of humidity in a closet where I have a safe with no air or heat vents. It has a single light bulb light on the ceiling, I will try to just leave it on all the time now.

Back when I did not have two nickels to rub together, I built my first safe(way over engineered). Even though I installed both horizontal and vertical locking bars, I worried about it being opened. Found an ad in shotgun news for the burglar bomb. Purchased two, tested one(holy crap, it works great or horribly depending on your location to it). Installed the other on a trip wire. Really cheap insurance policy. I think they have a web site.

Interesting, how do you keep from gassing yourself?

Partially open door, unhook trip wire. If you know it is there, no problem. If you don't, your gonna have a really bad day.

Any ideas on storage racks? So it seems pilot shipping has lost my door. How does that happen? That's a rather large item to lose. You'd think they could have at least contacted me instead of me waiting for delivery in the 3 hour window that they confirmed 2 weeks prior (+1 hr before I called cause hey, stuff happens). I'm just going to throw this out there, I wouldn't recommend them. Seemed agitated I asked for an update next day. "We'll contact you when we have an update". Anyway, rack ideas?

i used to have one of those burglar bombs mounted over a safe. never tried it. word was it was nasty and hard to clean up after.

Keep in mind nothing is impenetrable so your door is keeping honest people honest. Most punks wouldnt know how to get in without making so much noise. So go with what you can afford which is better than nothing. Back fill your blocks with high strength concrete and metal rebar.

Done. Break-ins around here are smash and grab dope heads. Concrete top and filled block.

Since this is essentially a safe room, I think something like this would be nice. I have seen this type of display wall used in gun stores, home gun rooms, etc. You can change the hooks around to match what ever the item is you are displaying. The guns are out for you to see and allows them to be out in the air.

Just do a Google search for "Display walls for gun rooms". You will get lots of ideas. Here is an example.
