Anyone have Hornady snapsafe vault door?

As the title says. Grading work is completed on my house site and footers are next for basement. I need to decide real quick on a vault door or go with a safe. I know I'll have to run a dehumidifier of some kind either way but living in the mountains will allow me to have the front of the basement exposed with door and windows. The hornady snapsafe doors are pretty cheap. Please no smart butt comments about skimping or if your willing to chance your guns and such on an economical door. Any thefts around here are grab and go. Only seen one pro safe crack in my area ever and they drilled sideways and used a punch and hammer to break the handle mechanism. Raising a family of 5 on one textile factory income for many years now requires me to be economical most times. Thanks all.
 
speaking as a one time registered safe technician... only tl-30 rated vault doors are substantially resistant to attack when armed with correct tools. those being pressure drill rigs, a supply of carbide bits, scope, punch etc. used to be not many people had scopes... now they are cheap and all around us. also the information was more closely held along among the pros, now it is almost open source.

sometimes the more obscure products are a better choice to thwart the casual yegg since some guesses on dimensions, drill points and lock handing have to be made, all increasing time and uncertainty for the thief.

incorporated in many turtle (tl-30) rated doors might be either heat fusible link or glass triggered relockers, and carbide included hardplate to protect the lock mechanism. any safe door should have some sort of relocker and setting them off can be frustrating for sure. front and side (angle mounted) carbide included hardplate is a big plus.

as you have seen, side attacks or tipping over on the back to pry the door are common with open air, free standing units.

torch or plasma attack, well that is a whole 'nother level.

many manufacturers and salesrooms willl not let you casually inspect the locking mechanism, making it difficult for the consumer to make informed decisions. and they certainly should not let you photograph or take dimensions.

lots of words to say i am not familiar with that door. but at least you don't have to worry about tip over or side attacks. now you have to worry about sledge hammer thru the cinder block wall... set up a perimeter alarm that will alert intruders they are on the clock, and their stress level might go up and save you.

How much are they? Im sure it will be fine for your application. A safe door from any of the safe mfrs will be good to slow the criminals down you just gotta limit their exposure time. Put a regular lookin door in front of it.

They are like $1200ish and planned on pouring the block and covering with ply.

If an expert criminal comes for your stuff , he will have it.... A regular safe can be opened in minutes with about $50 worth of stuff from harbor freight... To me it is much more important to limit the time they have to work.... I recommend a home alarm to limit the amount of time they have , if not they have all day while you're at work etc.... If you have a home alarm please don't put the little signs etc in your yard or on your windows telling them what to do and what to bring to disable your alarm.. if you have a safe actually mount it so it can't be moved or turned to get to the back of it..

Not to mention a home alarm protects you , your family , plus your valuable things while your sleeping and you get a break on your home owners insurance.. it's like having someone watch your stuff and your family that never sleeps , gets tired or sick or just plain lazy... Mine went off once , it was my fault I was seeing how high I could get the sensors with out a false alarm.... I was 25 miles aways heading home from the gun range when I got the phone call that 1 minute ago a motion sensor tripped in my house... I got there , cleared the house ( iam ex-leo ) and still had to wait on the police to show up... Normally their response time out here in the county is very fast , but not that day....

With modern alarm systems you not only get burglary protection , you also get smoke alarms , freeze and flood protection , not to mention real time video etc... The options are endless almost... The things you can do with them and a smartphone are amazing... There's so many options out there for alarms that doing your research just like when buying a safe us a must.... Pros and cons for all of them....

False door that looks like ordinary closet.

Door wired to trip inexpensive, deafening alarm.

Quite discouraging to endure that, certain the police are on their way, while you proceed to set up shop and endeavor to safecrack.
 
While not near as inexpensive as that one, I went with smith security safe, magnum vault door. 1/2" thick door skin! 1,200lbs. He has different sizes and options. Really pleased with mine. If anyone chooses to attack it, I think they will give up before it does. Plus other security features built into it.
 
There are interesting emergency alarms (horns powered by compressed air) for industrial accidents, etc. Google em. They are mechanical. They are set off (in normal use) by an intentional pull of the chain. A brick and a string works to set them off when Johnny Buttwipe is snatching the musket off the wall.

I might have set one off in a small room once by accident. Found myself holding my hands out in front of my face trying to stop the ear shattering noise that actually felt like a water hose hitting me in the face. for more fun, add a Burgler bomb and video. That way you get the effect of a surprise inhale, the OC gags, the deafening noise, the disorienting effects of the OC and lots of great facial expressions on the cam. For certainty of a good photo, put the cam next to a poster of the female form. everyone looks....

I like the Smith door myself. and a room hardened by plate steel wall liner fastened to floor and ceiling. Slows em down.
 
My point is I know a half a dozen people who could tell me your address. Don't post your security strategy online.
 
What you are doing is a good deterrent. That being said, anyone breaking into your home with the intent of getting at you guns, will come prepared. In my former life as a cop, I learned nothing will prevent a good thief from getting at what he or she wants. You could put a $20,000 door on that room and I can still get in there in 10 minutes. I'd just go through the wall with a sledge hammer.

Burglars are smart. They watch and wait. Once a house is empty in they go and out they come. If you live in a populated area, the best prevention is a loud alarm that your neighbors can hear. Bright flashing lights on motion detectors that do not turn themselves off quickly are also good to have. If you live in a rural area where your neighbor is not close by, there is not much you can do but hope. A burglar alarm won't do you much good, as we all know the response time is slow. This is especially true in a low crime area, as law enforcement is deployment and geared to respond to areas of high crime.
