Anyone Ever Have Vehicle Stolen!!

I just had my wifes new ride in the shop for 5mo waiting on a grille after hitting a deer (covid and the supply chain). They have their lot fenced in, razor wire on top and a guard on a golf cart out there every nite- and this is in an area you dont even have to lock your house. They are wasting a lot of money.

I repainted my 1980 Toyota 4x4 pickup, medium blue/ corvette silver, lift kit and mudders. Helped my girlfriend move to a new apartment. Left the truck locked, in 4wd, in a locked garage for the weekend. Sunday night returned, truck gone, rubber skid marks from truck being pulled out. At first we thought apartment manager had it towed, called police, no real concern/just a report. Insurance company took the full period in the policy to pay claim. First offers from them were 4x2 price, this was back when you still talked to representatives and adjusters. Theft, all crimes, on big increases. Along with fentanyl overdose deaths,300 a day.

Yes. A long time ago we had our 1974 Cutlass stolen. It was recovered a couple weeks later.
First the body and then the engine and transmission. They knew who did it and never charged anyone.
Insurance company totaled it, paid us a very fair offer and we moved on.

A few years later good friend had his VW Cabriolet stolen from a "secure" parking garage in NOLA. It was during Mardi Gras and there were no cars to be rented anywhere. They had to hitch a ride home with strangers. Their insurance company told them they had to wait 30 days to get paid off. On day 30 my friend went to collect. When he got home there was a message on his answering machine from NOLA PD advising they found his car. He called NOLA PD to tell them who to contact (insurance) and kindly asked if they would say where the car was found. Sheepishly, the PD advised it had been in the PD impound lot for 29 days. Turns out it had been abandoned in a no parking zone, ticketed twice and then impounded.

It’s a lot cheaper to pay for a fence and a guard at $150 a night than a lawyer at $400 an hour to deal with the mess after the fact and if it’s a large company with lots of cars it can get sketchy real quick. Everyone’s so sue happy these days you have to make a business decision, pay a little now or a lot later fighting it.

In Philly and most of the tri-state area, catalytic converter thefts are off the chart. Thieves could care less about the camera systems or camera door bells.

Thieves love those chargers and challengers in Detroit.
Most people that live in or Detroit, have had a car stolen at one time. When you get one stolen, you should pray that you never get it back. God only knows what you may find in it. They found one of the two cars I’ve had stolen in my life, it had blood all over the seats and dashboard, needles and spent homemade crack stems found on the floor boards. Lots of parts gutted and missing from the car. Suspension damaged. Total shit show.

Not yet, but crime is rampant in eastern PA and not just in the cities anymore. My farmer friends have had copper piping cut from their dairy houses and stolen, stolen catalytic converters in driveways or barns at night, trucks stolen out of driveway or barn areas at night, tools and tractor parts stolen.

This is happening in remote farming areas. I thought it was safe to park my SUV and hog hunt the fields but I'm getting more weary - keeping the SUV in sight. Welcome to the brave new world. With the southern border falling apart, it's going to get much worse I believe. Hope I'm wrong about that but it looks bleak from where I sit.

It won't be long before the bad guys start going to gun ranges looking to steal weapons.

Worked there back in the mid '80s. Was surprised to learn cars and trucks were considered consumables. Run them for a few years, they rot out from the salt and cinders, then junk them. Being Motown, it was job security.

had my blazer stolen, theif come back the next night to bullets whizzin by his head, got my truck back 4 months later found in a soybean field, still ran sold it
it's a long story.

Over the years I have had two vehicles stolen when not in my possession. The first one was at a gas / service station for some regular scheduled maintenance work. The owner of the station hit keys for the vehicles on his lot.

I got a call in the middle of the night (actually the early morning) from the police that my car was in their custody after being involved in a high speed chase and had at least two bullet holes in it. I was asked if I could pick it up the next day, but not realizing at this time in the morning the message was really about that day as it was the next day after having the message left.

The next one was as bazaar. I paid $590.00 a month to park one of my cars in a garage on the street where I have an apartment in Manhattan. I could call in advance and have the car waiting for me on the street when I was ready to take it. The problem was that the keys were behind a counter in easy reach. Turns out that a person walked in while the attendants were getting other cars, reached over, read the tag number and then went around the corner and called asking for the car in Space No, XXX be retrieved. He then proceeded to walk up when the car was brought to the curb and drove it away.

The interesting thing was this was something that this person did regularly and when he was caught he admitted to doing in dozens of times. The most bazaar part though was he parked the car in his home town in New Jersey and after leaving the keys on top of one of the tires, went home, but another car thief saw the car on the street in the middle of the night and having no clue that the keys were on top of one of the tires, broke into the car, hot wired it and drove it away and then got caught. He that thief had left it alone, with would have been unharmed, just a nuisance to get back. Instead it was totalled when crashed by the thief.

Both of these insidents were covered by the offending companies, but was still a big pain.

In 1984 bought a new Toyota SR5 Extra cab Tacoma , #57 days later Wife went into another city to visit family .

About 6:30 PM ,I get a phone call , OK Smart AZZ where's the Truck ,the Truck what are you talking about ? We left My brothers house at 7:20 AM took kids to Dizzyland ,we get back and there's NO f ing Truck now what did You do with it ?. I told her to call the Sheriff's Dept. and report it stolen !. Insurance ISN'T your friend or Allie ever !.

Insurance can't wouldn't cut a check for #30 days . So #35 days later I get a call from another County Sheriff's deputy found your truck !. OK where's it at about half way between You and I ,here's address I'll stand by . So I drive up 45 minutes later I'm looking at a totally STRIPPED 84 Tacoma Extra cab !.

Bed was still on the truck NO seats NO dash or wiring harness NO engine NO tranny door panels including handles Gone ,even the damn window glass was gone ; Except front windshield , Go figure !?.

Insurance only paid XXXXX dollars and a New one was XXXXXO dollars ,so I made the insurance company FIND one . They did with same dealership I bought mine from ,only less expensive ,got it through Fleet sales .
Color I wanted fully equipped for $1,800.00 LESS than I had paid two months prior !. I learned something ALL dealerships LIE !.

Yes, State Farm /
Your car insurance will cover the car. Your home owners will cover the contents in the car..
You will loose no matter what..

Had my KX500 stolen from the hotel parking garage in Mammoth Lakes, CA after riding it cross country from Minden, NV. Filed the report in the morning, we traced the tire tracks to a small commercial area about 1/2 mile away. Thought it was gone for good, then when I called the local PD a couple days later to see if it had been found they reported it was impounded in Independence, CA. The genius and his girlfriend (relative of the owners of the ski resort) where trying to get it to SoCal in the back of a car. CHP did not think that looked right for a desert race bike and pulled them over. They had several more stolen items with them at the time. Took me a couple more days to get it out of impound and bring it home. He was a proud owner for two days as he cleaned it and put some new stickers on it. I did not have to go to court, just a disposition to the detective. I think they were going to ask for a change of venue due to the family ties to Mammoth.

Now as a follow up on My original Truck theft ; I have a Good friend who is now retired CHP .
Back then he was active and told Me a tale about a bust of a chop shop ,who just happened to have been caught with multiple stolen parts and a Bunch of cars !.

So short story goes like this . A popular Bedroom community ( everyone works and a crap load of empty homes during daylight hours ) Riverside County , CA. was notorious for burglaries . Vehicles were also disappearing at an alarming rate . So LEO put spotters out for months NO success . Then one mid morning
MY CHP buddy stops a Heavy enclosed cargo bed Truck ,with produce logo company displayed on it . However under bed is leaking oil but driver says it's out of rear end . So My buddy sites em get it fixed .

Never let on what he was really suspecting ,just let the driver go . Then contacted additional units to keep tabs on it's destination . They did and started a #3 month long investigation . Produce trucks DON'T pull into Body shops Normally !!.

Here's what got real interesting ; Seems some Big wig Los Angeles Civil engineer who just happened to be an Arab ,was also wrapped up in the Chop shop . Further investigation let authorities to find out he had been sending cargo containers over to Saudi Arabia ,like #4-7 a Month worth .

OK so Produce truck van was one of #11 all different names ,all stealing cars trucks whatever . Pretty sophisticated ,winch inside Van box velvet ramps with urethane roller wheels and guys even had Liquid Nitrogen pressure bottles ,for spraying locks as well as alarm systems . That steering wheel locking bar ,snaps after about 10-15 seconds while being sprayed with nitrogen .

The Irony of the Story is ,that LA civil engineer had also bilked the city of LA out of 100's of K's of $'s .
Somehow he found out they were about to grab him but before they could ,he fled too Saudi Arabia !.

We figured he must of had democrap connections !!!!!!!!!!. Oh the oil inside that truck van was from some High dollar Mercedes Benz and taking it up the ramps tore off the oil pan .

I got the complete run down one evening while setting around camp ,after deer hunting .

I'm very fortunate to have Germania Insurance here in Texas. They are super to deal with!
Hopefully I won 't need them for another claim, but I bet they would take care of us. I have dealt with the other kind in the past and feel your pain.
