Anyone Ever Have Vehicle Stolen!!

Little off subject but wife’s car was stolen from a body repair place late last night. Apparently rammed fence with stolen truck, broke into building and found keys to wife’s car and another sports car and drove them out the broken gate. I’m sure it’s gone. Just curious on anyone ever deal with insurance issues afterwards.

Yes. When police found it my Suburban was impounded by Gary police. Needed car title for local police to retrieve my Suburban. Gary didn't dust for prints, retrieve evidence etc. Insurance company took care of repairs.

Yep. After my ordeal I switched insurance carriers. They treated me like I was the criminal for no reason whatsoever. It took months to get all the damages and items that were stolen replaced or compensated for. Hopefully you have a carrier that won't treat you as that one did me. BTW a whole extended family all cancelled that carrier and went somewhere else over it.

I’ve never had a vehicle stolen but plenty of equipment over the years and dealing with any insurance company is about like going in for a prostate exam,, you always seem to leave walking bow legged with the feeling you’ve been violated without so much as a kiss.

Good luck and at the first sign of a disagreement contact a lawyer, I hate involving them but I hate insurance companies more so pick your poison… The legal thieves will try to shaft you more times than not.

Yes, back in 1986, my wife got as at a swim meet with my son, her new 4 wheel drive blazer parked in Cypress Fairbanks High School parking lot all day.

When they went to leave, it wasn’t their. The police found the ignition cartridge on the parking lot Where the thieves had pulled it out.

The Blazer was never found. Insurance paid it off, we ended up loosing equity.

about 4 years later we got a notice from Brownsville Texas Traffic Authority concerning unpaid parking tickets. A lot of them.

We called and told them we had never been to Brownsville. They had the VIN #, which why they contacted us.

Turns, it was our stolen Blazer. Probably some body driving it back and forth across the Border.

We contacted both the Harris County Sheriff and the Insurance Company.

In short, they didn’t really care.

Insurance companies are not your friend ever. Thy are only looking out for themselves
Yeah it’s going to be a mess. It was in the shop for repairs due to non insured motorists hit her from behind and my insurance paid 14k in repairs and now it’s stolen from the same body shop performing repairs….

Yes I've had one stolen. Got it back three days later with a $350 tow bill after the guy who stole it, wrecked it. Had no insurance on it covering theft either. Had to pay the tow bill before I was allowed to get it too. If not for the cylinder heads in the back that I had just paid a large bill at the machine shop for them being repaired, I'd have let them keep it.
The dude gave up information on another crime in the area and got off scot free for stealing my car.

It'll be between your insurance and the body shops insurance.

Body shops insurance won’t have any part of it, that’s like your car being stolen from Walmart’s parking lot and expecting Walmart to pay for it. I’ve been down that road after having a tractor stolen from a dealership, they’re like I’m sorry and good luck LOL
If you get shafted by the insurance company you could go after the body shop personally to make up the difference but either way it’s a PITA. Did I mention I hate Insurance companies? :)

Yeah, about 8 years ago. Started it up, went back in the house to get my coffee. Saw them backing out of my cul-de-sac! Wife was on the phone with the police while I was chasing them. While she was on the phone, she asked if my pistol was in the car. THAT got the cops interested! (It wasn't, didn't tell them that) Got the car back the next day.

My car was stolen and stripped.

My parents car was stolen taken to Arkansas, obtained an AR title and sold to an AR family. FBI involved since it crossed state lines and took 43 days to get it back.

Had a WV house fire after a lightning strike when I was fishing in FL

Thieves love those chargers and challengers in Detroit.

I did. Years ago when I was 19 or so. A little white ford escort that was parked in a transmission repair shop lot. They must have fished the keys out from the key drop slot in the door at the shop. After a few days of not hearing from the shop about repairing my car I called and said is my car done yet (needed a new clutch) they said what car? I got a ride down there and that’s when I called the police. They found it totaled against a tree with all the windows broken out of it and the seats all cut up. They stole a lightweight ruger 10/22 stock I had in the trunk and homemade wind flags I was using for 100 and 200 yard shooting. Insurance company said it was a total loss and paid me a tiny bit of money for it. I really didn’t care about the car but wanted my wind flags and stock back still do 20 years later. I hate thieves. Still can’t believe there’s anyone dumb enough to steal a piece of crap car from a transmission repair shop. Grand theft is the same whether you steal a ford escort or corvette if you’re gonna do it why settle on a teenagers car that’s already beat to hell and at a repair shop? Never heard back from the cops and no one was ever caught. Since then I do get pretty paranoid about leaving my keys with a mechanic.

Apparently you’ve never noticed all the “not responsible for theft or damage” signs at a body or mechanic shop
Why do they even have fences? Why did the ones i used to work at have mean dogs they let out at night? They could make a killing letting the chop shop folks have a key to their gate if theyre not resposible.

How can it be in possession of the body shop and them not being responsible for securing it?

Each states laws are different I’m sure but here you sign a waiver releasing them of liability, even if you didn’t sign it thr still not legally bound to be responsible for theft or damages while in thr possession. If you leave your ride somewhere your insurance better be paid up.

To help keep them from dealing with the BS, it’s not a good reputation to have if the public knows a certain business has issues with thieves.
