Anyone buy from Precision Mathews lately

Matt (PM) special ordered this. After over a couple of years of service, I ran a taper cut exercise. 10 inch unsupported it still yielded these numbers. Close enough for government work. Within measuring error in a non-controlled environment.

Lathe picture was on break time during installation.

PM1440TV is an Eisen 1440EV, just diffrenr badge.

It did not cut this straight out of the box. I had to align the HS. What a pain, but it gave me the opportunity to replace the HS clampdown metric socket heads with ARP 12 point metric bolts. Much easier to work with.
what is the blue curtain for?

The Lathe is actually Liang Dei made in Taiwan https://www.liang-dei.com.tw/about-us.html
I dont own this machine but a Liang Dei and I put a VFD on it how they should be done.

To be accurate, my lathe is a Taiwan Acra clone of a Hardinge toolroom lathe. Very nice to work with. I bought a new Bridgeport last year. For both machines, I bought new to avoid the time, expense, wear and tear a used machine would have and cause.

Walt, when you are ready to upgrade to new machines, give me a chance to rob the wife's bank, maybe I can afford to buy the Acra Hardinge lathe...lol

Nice machines.

That is just to rough it. I do have the proper level if and when I need it.

The 1440 GT I just setup and leveled held within .0001" over the 12" test bar. I am glad I didn't have to mess with the headstock alignment.....

Unfortunately, Precision Mathews is probably one of the better new lathes, unless you were going with the Caddilac/Kingston/YAM/Wacheon/et al or the more expensive German lathes, possibly a Weiler.

I'd like to ask a question on the Precision Mathews gunsmith lathe that someone mentioned, does that have a short headstock so you can chamber with spiders on each end of the headstock? Or what separates that from the Precision Mathews Summit 14x40 model? Unfortunately they don't give very good info on their site, and the toolroom lathes look the same as the Summit which look the same as the Gunsmith lathes. I'm probably missing something, well yeah, I'm missing the length of the headstock...The toolroom says 2" spindle bore, but the Grizzly is a tad larger I think...to much info...

For this reason the old South Bend Heavy 10s were pretty popular, but limited through spindle to about 1.375" spindle bore.

Does anyone here thread an extension onto a barrel to chamber through the headstock? (to be able to dial in on both ends)

Monarch still makes equipment in Ohio. Unfortunately, they are owned by some foreign outfit.
It is possible to still find a used Monarch 10EE for around $10,000.
If the ways need scrapping or some other work, give Keith Rucker a call.
