Hi Hntndad! O.K. we're all Roberts lovers here. I've never been one to pass on knowingly erroneous info. My data comes from Hornady 7th edition manual. Since Hornady's load data is formulated exclusively for +P brass it leads me to believe there's a difference and therefore isn't "just a rumor". ....... However, I'm open to your thinking since if it's true it might benefit readers of this thread as well as myself............... So, fire away. P.S. I've never actually compared weight or CC'd the two different head stamps but while I wait for your answer you can bet I will

Pros: It will kill anything on the North or American continents with the right choice of projectile. It can easily be changed to the 257 Ackley Improved (my favorite all around cartridge design) if you would like to get a little more velocity. The short case allows for the use of short actions.
Cons: Probably shouldn't be used to try to kill the larger game of Africa. Bullet choice is limited but getting better. For varmints I use Nosler 100gr BTs. For large game the 120gr Partition is the bomb, so to speak.
I own a trued Rem700 SA with a Shilen SM 1:10tw barrel, 25" long. The accuracy is outstanding. Is it a true "1/4 inch" target rifle? No. However, I have shot some 100 yard bug holes with either bullet mentioned above. I was pleasantly surprised when the Partitions grouped so well.

How about a 250 Savage? Just built one on a 700 action with a Rock creek barrel, Remington Mountain rifle contour and a McMillan Edge stock. Its just plain sweet to shoot!

Shot my first big game animals at the age of 12 with an old Browning Lever Action (BLR) in 257 Roberts using 120gr factory ammo. So even tho I don't own a rifle in that caliber now, the 257 Roberts will always have a place in my heart.
Shot 3 animals with that rifle on my first hunting trip where I was allowed to take game. First animal was an antelope buck at 280 yards, one shot drop when I hit him in the front of his chest. Second was a mule deer buck at about 500 yards with hold over guidance from my father. Hit the buck in the guts tho because I wasn't a very good long range shooter at the age of 12, then had to finish the buck off up close. Last was a mule deer doe at 90 yards, one shot drop through the shoulders broadside. Great little low recoiling round for a beginner hunter. Very accurate too.

Some one used to run an add in Shotgun News, for small ring Mauser barreled actions that were built on 93s. They were all cool low pressure rounds 257 Roberts, 250-3000, and 7/57. I used to lust after one of these. But a pediatrician in Wellington used to take my gun money every time one of my children got an ear infection. I hated her!
I picked one up that was a mess! the barrel was so rusted it couldn't be saved. I put on a new barrel and a new stock and now have a rifle that is a tack driver. the first load I put in it was a berger 115gr and it will shoot 1/4in groups all day long! I love this gun and my grandkids love to shoot it because of light recoil.

Last month I picked up a left handed Savage with a 26" barrel chambered in 257 Roberts AI that I'd walked past a dozen times in the past year. Got a decent deal on it. It's a pleasure to load for. I haven't done much with it, but the 87gr Speer TNT shoots inside a minute without much fuss at all. The only "beefier" bullet I could find locally was a 117gr Interlock. It wants to shoot well most of the time, but it does toss some fliers. Haven't gotten around to checking what I have for twist...

Good thread, quarter bores don’t get the press they used to. I do tend to fancy the 257 Roberts.
What do you think will be the life of your barrel? What bullet, powder and fps are you running thru the gun? I purchased a 25-06 for my wife early this year and am wondering what kind of barrel life to expect. Thanks Daniel
