Any SIG Sauer engineers on this forum? (My Cross is crooked...)

SIG's new Cross (bolt-action, folding stock) rifle appealed to me since I first read about it late last year. Finally got one; bought it at my local Bass Pro Shop after ordering it 'ship to store'. So many positive (industry publication type) reviews, but I am decidedly underwhelmed.

I bought the 6.5 Creedmoor version, which actually weighs 7 lbs. 1 oz with the empty magazine in place. (The only Cross you'll find at their widely-advertised 6.5 lbs is the 16" bbl .308 Win version. Shorter barrel, bigger hole, but SIG went ubiquitous with that figure, rather than stating other versions would be heavier...)

Anyway, when this rifle is unlocked from the folded position, the buttstock is clearly not in perfect alignment with the rest of the rifle (i.e. the barrel, action, and everything forward of the hinge mechanism). In other words, it locks into place but goes past 180 degrees to do so. Yes, this bugs me, but not nearly as much as the lousy accuracy I am getting.

Anybody else buy a SIG Cross, and is your rifle straight? Or at least a straight shooter? (My rifle puts 5-shots of Berger Match 140 grain Hybrid factory ammo into 2"+ at 100y. That is unacceptable.)

BTW, I posted a more comprehensive review to SIG's main website for the Cross rifle, and they took my review down.

FORUM BOSS: On 11/25/2020 SIG Sauer announced a safety recall for ALL Cross rifles:

Call them. Is it possible that the stock was meant to be off-set so as to get one's eye directly behind the scope? Long Range shooters use off-set butt stocks at times for that reason. As for accuracy, I assume you checked the action screws, scope mounts, rings, etc.. They make good products, worth double checking.

That was my thought. Is it cast for a right or left handed shooter?

Appreciate the idea, but it's supposed to be dead straight. I know about cast, having had Palma and smallbore rifles with stocks built to yield better alignment of the shooter's eye with the aperture sights. This is not that, and is the wrong direction for me (a right-hander). A SIG master dealer in my area looked at my rifle and target, and concurred that SIG needs to be involved at the factory level. So the rifle is now in his possession, en route to SIG in New Hampshire.

I checked and double-checked all of the optics issues, including the Picatinny rail that SIG installs at the factory. Everything right. If this was a run-of-the-mill AR platform, I would consider the accuracy acceptable. But not this setup, although the SIG dealer thinks that SIG has oversold the 'Cross' from the precision perspective, and should have perhaps marketed it as a compact hunting rifle with modern features. Even so, I wouldn't have a 2 MOA hunting rifle in my collection.

Hoping to hear from some other Cross bearers. :)

That may help, looks like a recall is out on at least some the Sig Cross rifles.

Yep, as of yesterday, SIG has issued a recall for Cross rifles, due to at least one reported (and documented during a YouTube review) instance of delayed firing after the trigger is pulled. (Shooter let up, and then the rifle fired. Mamma mia.)

Here's the crooked Cross. When I measured the deviation (from straight, using a 48" machined level aligned with the muzzle and mounting holes of the Picatinny rail), it was almost 3/4" to the left at the butt pad... my LOP being 14.5". The hinge point is behind the action tang of course, so it swings left quite a bit in something like 12". Add in the poor accuracy and now a recall, and I hit a trifecta of sorts. To quote Kip from Napoleon Dynamite, "Dang it". ;-)

I remember when Sig was a brand that meant quality. It seems like they've had more issues than any manufacturer in the last decade. That military pistol with trigger issues comes to mind, as does a piston operated gun they brought to market about 15 years ago.

Hope it works out for you O.P.

You're going to need to send it back to SIG Sauer in any event. There is a safety recall in effect for ALL Cross rifles.

When you return, be sure to inform SIG of the stock issue. Do NOT rely on email. I would PRINT out your complaint and physically attached that to the rifle. I would also print out the photo you have hear and include that in the package. After you get a confirmation of delivery on the rifle, I would also call SIG, talk to a human, explain your issues, and get a "case number". You want to be 100% sure they understand you have two issues: 1) Safety Recall; 2) Crooked Stock.

The original German made guns are FLAWLESS.
