folks.........I have had a very interesting talk with a scope mfg company today. they are developing a scope with high magnification as we speak. They want the business themselves and at this point seem reluctant to give me a quote. I can tell by their comments that they know our limited partner ship can sale these scopes with no problem. It is a no brainier. Any one and every one would be interested in buying the largest scope on the market , it is human nature and they know it. has nothing to if it is practical or cost really if scopes are half way decent quality. This company knows that. Were still talking , but guess who is asking all the questions ?????? Not me and our group but the the scope MFG company. All they have been asking about is are marketing strategies......After the 30 question in a row from them with out even acknowledging my very 1st question I finally said i am not here to talk about my marketing strategies , I am ready to write a check for a 100 piece scope order with 10-100 x ? and following specs and a follow up order of 250 scopes. So what is the price ? They would not comment at this point and said they would get back to me. Your typical Japanese response in business...... copy , copy copy , use other peoples technology and use other peoples marketing strategies for themselves. We see it every day. I will keep you up dated. i think my group has a better chance getting these scopes made in Russia. They are broke and can do it , problem will be can I important this product . Will keep you posted. Marty
Marty, thanks for the update. I understand your desire for secrecy, but don't complain when people keep secrets from you.
I don't think you would have any issues importing sports optics into this country; you may, however, have problems subsequently exporting such devices to other countries, even if they are not manufactured in the USA. (Yeah, I know, but this is government in action.)
Let me just caution you on one thing. While I understand the need some people have to claim bragging rights from owning the "most powerful" doodad on the planet, when it comes to optics there is such as thing as usefulness. If the image is too dark at max power, or if it's not crisp, it will be useless. To achieve something useful, you will need the very finest glass possible, with the very best assembly possible, and that ain't cheap or abundant.
There are probably some who would love to say they own a riflescope with the highest magnification in the world and then confess that they can't see a thing unless it's bright sunshine out there and even then the image is, well, vague. And pay $3000 to $5000 or more for that conundrum. Most people, the vast majority will not. As long as you know it's going to be a niche market, and you're going in with your eyes (and pocketbook) wide-open, then you're ok.
I look forward to reading the reviews.
