Any Partridge [ruffed grouse] hunting reports ???

No grouse where I grew up in NE NC, but the quail population is really down due to habitat destruction. Everyone I know hunts pen raised birds, or go out of state for wild birds.

Beautiful photo! Brings back a lot of memories.
The ruff population started to decline here in the late 70's. Some blame it on the return of the wildturkey. Some blame the coyotes, foxes, coons, possums, bobcats, hawks and owls. Some say it is cyclical. All I know for sure is, this old man didn't replace his Brittany, the SKB stands idle, and the sound of "drumming" is now just a fond memory.
Count those blessings!
What SKB?

SxS right? I recall the 100. I LUSTED after a 20 ga when they first came out. Eventually settled on a beater BSS. Sold it when I was hard up for cash a few years ago to a grouse guy down south. Miss it. But since I just walked 250 yards uphill to a treestand, and was so winded I thought I would die, I think my grouse days are long over.

Last week while deer hunting here in Maine this partridge would meet me almost every day and follow me to my stand. Some days it would follow me 350-400 yds in or out. One morning it landed on the shooting rail of the stand.
