Wish I could help you . But this is about the worse place for a retired Varmint hunter in the country. The only varmints around where I live at Concord NC only have two leggs and the is no open season on them. Art

I grew up on a farm about 12 miles north of Hillsborough off Walnut Grove Church Road, check your map) and I loved shooting varmints. Groundhogs and crows are about all the legal varmints you can take. I understand coyotes are becoming more common. In general, there are not many good places because houses are everywhere in Orange County compared to 10 years ago. If you can get permission from a landowner, look for large areas of kudzu near fescue or small grain fields or old barns and out buildings for groundhogs. I once killed one with a Ruger Old Army cap and ball pistol around some old farm buildings. The crows are tough to get good shoots on. Too few farms and too many people these days. Good luck.
