Colorado Springs varmint hunting spots

OP is asking for spots to shoot pdogs in Colorado Springs, not an Op-Ed on the politics of his country and the world as you see it. Please keep you politics off the shooting forum.

America was settled by a relatively young civilized European cultural ethnic breed. 0nly a few thousand years old. Look at what they/we have achieved.. Yet looking at Sub Sahara Africa,lt has been settled by a cultural breed for well over 60THOUSAND years.. They still cant seem to govern and advance themselves. So sad.
Keep this condescending BS to yourself. You contributed nothing to either of these continents, you get credit for nothing too. To quote an Adam Sandler movie "what you’ve just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it."

I lived in Colorado off an on for 15 years, not including the time I spent growing up there. (18y).

while a resident, I spent an insane amount of time looking for, preparing for, spending money on and attemping to shoot every Pdog I could find.

Often what I would do when looking for new spots was to grab a set of maps (googlemaps these days), a good pair of binoculars, and go for a drive. Private land is typically where you will find the best concentrations, because the food supply (alfalfa pivots) and predator suppression works in the Pdogs favor. you might be driving around for days before you find something and then its about knocking on doors. most farmers in those parts are a little wary of strangers but as long as you have a friendly, direct, no BS attitude you should have good results gaining permission to shoot. (get yourself a "trump 2020" bumper sticker too..) be prepared to spend several days scouting... have breakfast at the local Cafe, and talk to the owner. BS with the checkout gal at the truckstop while filling up with gas....etc.

Welcome to the USA. its a shame whats happening in SA. :-/

A non-resident small game lisc. In Colorado is 50$ . Government grasslands are seasonal access only, private lands are open year round . Head East on the I-70 and look for dogs, ask the local landowner for access, I was never denied access when I asked in person . Good luck.

Hey guys,

I will be moving from South Africa to Colorado Springs in December. Does anybody maybe have any pointers or guidance as to the best spots for varminting in that area? From prairie dogs to coyoytes......not fussy.....just want to send some lead to some form of varmint.

Thanks in advance guys.
Go to the local Colorado BLM ( bureau of land management) and get a map that shows all of the BLM land that is available and talk to someone in the office. I don't know about Colorado but here in Montana you can just go and shoot varmints on BLM or state land unless its leased to a rancher. If you can find the rancher .ask permission Most ranchers here are tickeled shitless to have someone shoot the P dogs and coyotes off their grazing land. Some don't like to give permission because some dumb ass shot their cows/ sheep/ house/ pickup/tractor/barn/ windmill/water tank etc.

Get some maps, get in your truck and start hunting
ain't nobody ever successfully hunted and kilt a coyote while sitting in front of a computer not that I know of anyway

How long do the dogs stay out in CO. I’m headed to Ft. Collins, but my trip has been pushed from early Sep to mid Oct.

Would it be worth it to bring a gun? I’ll be there for 10 days or so.

PD's can be out anytime it is sunny and relatively warm, I have shot them on snow covered fields. Of course you won't see the numbers up that you would in the summer but it sure makes for some interesting graphics when you hit one on a snow mound.

PDS shot in the SNOW are a true SIGHT to behold. First the RED MIST. Then the PAINTED desert with 20 ft RED stripes:D
