Any New Scuttlebutt on Mid Range Nationals @ Camp Perry?

Nodak7mm

Team Lefse
The snow is still deep and am wondering if there is any newer info on the Mid-Range Prone Nationals proposal being held at Camp Perry?

Curious..

A pretty repatable source told me that its the same dates as the XTC Nationals. Aug. 5th to the 9th.
300/500/600Yards. One day 15-shot iron, One day 15-shot any sight, One day 20 shot iron, One day 20 shot any sight. Plus a team day shooting at 300, 500 600 also.

Next month the scedule will be posted on the NRA web site. ( April)

Hope this helps.

Four days of individual, two iron, two any and oddly enough a team match in the middle that will count in the individual agg. So get a good wind coach!

Did you get that from Dennis Willing or Sherri Judd? I cant imagine the Team match being included in the Indvidual Agg. for the championship. Its possable I guess but I will have to wait till next month and see what the program says.

Hope all is well.

Russ,

After numerous phone calls I finally got a wonderful gal that answered the Liason number and she is going to look into it and let me know. I will post her response when I get it.

45-60 rounds each day, that is not enough shooting.

Why not do a day at 3, a day at 5, and a day at 6, then you can eliminate the slow line changes.

This really shows me that the NRA wants XTC to go away and move to prone like the rest of the world, especially with having it placed over the top of scheduling for XTC.

The idea of a team match score added to the agg is ridiculous too. I would be lucky to have a good coach, but what about those who do not? But of course the upper level shooters would not have a problem finding a good coach.

I have shot LR too many times now to be frustrated with the lack of speed during the day (sadly smallbore is going that way too, always 1 slow person to slow up the who day). I will wait to hear how it goes, but I am guessing it is going to take all day to get very little accomplished.

There is a 1K range, extend LR instead of shooting MR- but that is always my preference.

I'm just going of what I've heard, from people who've shot at Perry many, many times... the matches there run *slow*. Slower than most people would imagine - or tolerate anywhere else.

From what I've seen of their numbers (declining every year...) - it ain't that they have that many relays or too few firing points... so I'm not sure what the problem is exactly. But I'm guessing 45-60 rounds per day is all you're going to get, if you want the 'privilege' of shooting at Camp Perry.

Other scuttlebutt I'd heard @ Raton last fall was that certain folks in the NRA would very much like to pull FCNC and SOA to Perry, regardless of any other traditional arrangements (such as FCNC rotating around, or SOA being @ Raton) because they finally figured out where the growth in HP is at - after years of snubbing 'us'. If they actually pulled that kind of shenanigans... I think those matches might be off my calendar.

YMMV,

Yes it does run very slow at Perry. They have alot of National Guard rules that they are determined to adhear to. Everyone rides to the pits on wagons pulled by slow moving tractors. The problem is they wont leave the wagons in the pits so they make double trips to pick people up.
They shoot four relays so there's two pullers on every target. I really like two pullers per target for a better chance of not getting screwed on pit service. However they also adhear to some old rule about allowing a 10 minute rest period if you are scheduled to shoot right after pulling. So everybody just sets there 10 minutes before you can bring your gear to the line. 45 minute pit changes are normal.
The other negatives are no impact berm and limited close parking. You need a range cart.

All that said. I think all us Fr's that went last year would go again. Other than the slow pace it was extreamly well run. They had tons on volunteers and guard personel that were as nice and helpful as they could be. I can't say enough about how well everyone treated us.
The range was very nice and it plays fair no matter which end your on. The parking is all paved. No flat tires or pulling people out of the mud.

The highlight is the awards ceremony. They do it right.

Slowest match I've ever competed in

You bet :)

Got the call today from Sherri Judd at the NRA and she confirmed that individual scores fired in the team match will count in the sub aggs as well as the grand agg. When I questioned the logic of this she defended their decision by saying that the CMP combines the NTI with the NTT match and they want more participation in the team match

Rick

I am sure the NRA is trying to increase participation in the team matches, and having people build those relationships.

I don't like the idea, but i see why they are using this proposal.

its all moot to me as the are running this at the same time as the XTC championship and I can only shoot one, but the team thing, while a bit usual, really isnt a bad idea. If your coach sucks that bad, just read your own wind. And there is a lot to be said about trying to get us back into team shooting, same as getting into shooting 2 or 3 to a mound. If we ever want to win internationally, I think we may need to do so as the other countries seem to be edging us out a bit with the wind skills.

or, we can just be all out me, or the individual. Guess that works too.

And yes, perry runs a bit slow, but there is a reason for it, and really, does it matter? What else are you going to do while at Perry other than shoot and go into Port Clinton and eat? :-)

And if you think NRA matches are slow, try CMP week....oh my! :o

Unless the coach throws up their hands and says screw it, that would get you kicked off any team I've been a part of pretty dang fast.

Agreed. When you shoot with a coach, do exactly what he or she says. Anything else will likely make it worse.
