Just curious if Camp Perry has an F class mid range events in 2019?
Are you talking about the National Matches? Or the local Ohio club that holds matches there?
CMP as far as I know does not hold Mid Range Matches and does not support F class. NRA does and the National Championship for those are held in Indiana now, as they moved from Camp Perry to Atterbury for XTC and Sling, not sure about F class Nationals.. SOme one will be along to help with that info.
I wonder if they could be encouraged to incorporate F Class as a new Discipline.
Should we even ask ??!!
Thoughts??
Absolutely, if we means you.
I'm physically incapable of shooting sling at a level that's worth going to Perry.
I'd love to see something supported there.
Even if it's out-of-competition f-class in the long range or some kind of new 'modern sniper' class.
Most of us are incapable of shooting from a sling at a level to be competitive at Perry. Yet we all continue to go year after year and put our rounds down range.
I am opposed to mixing F and T/R for LR. I have asked about a mid-range program and the answer I received alluded to “they are working on it”. If that means a f class program or not I have no idea.
Go ahead and lobby. The National matches are only a month and a week or so long. Maybe the OHNG will give them another week if enough ppl lobby for it.
I'm talking about not being competitive with the most of you who aren't competitive.
There are all skill levels. Ppl who literally just bought a rifle and signed up to those who don’t shoot anything outside of the 10 ring. This first and foremost is a game of self improvement where you compete against yourself rather than anyone else.
I don’t want to shoot with the National matches, that is what it is, I would like to shoot there though for Local/Club level Fclass matches.
I shot the midrange Fclass Nationals there a few years ago, and loved it. I think it has been one of the better venues that I have competed. Plus, it is Camp Perry.
I stayed in my travel trailer on base and my family was able to come with me (could walk to the range).
Again, I would try to attend Fclass matches at Perry if they were scheduled.
I've been involved in F-Class here in Canada for about 20 years and we tripped over the integration of TR and F-Class for the first few years.
It worked fine in the early days, particularly for practices, but it didn't work out very well for matches and we have abandoned the idea.
There where a number of stumbling points...
1) In Canada we shoot is squads of 3 and rotate 1 shot each, so the speed of each shooter influences how well the others in the squad will shoot. In the USA it is typically single string, so the target is all yours until complete, so who else is in your squad does not matter so much, so that's good. The flip side to single string shooting is the short duration between shots lulls the shooter into chasing the spotter with little time or mental energy afforded to the study of the changing conditions, and that is not so good.
2) F-Class shoots a smaller target than TR. In the early days we used the same target but F-Class guys would shoot perfect scores and tie breakers would go on forever, so the target size was reduced to 1/2 MOA V bull. I don't see why TR shooters could not shoot on the smaller F-Class target, since the X ring is still in the middle, but traditionalists will object.
I suppose on both sides of the border a fast target puller is beneficial, and a slow target puller can cost you the match.
