Howdy !

" MOPAR OR NO CAR " !

Yeh.. we had a bunch within the family, collectively.....

1929 Chrsyler 4 door, 1949 Windsor 4 door, 1951 DeSoto 4 door, 1955 Windsor, both a 2 door and 4 door
1962 New Ports, both in Sky Blue and w/ 361 4 bbl's, 1965 Fury III 383 4bbl 4spd 2door, 1966 Chrysler
New Port 4 door 383 4bbl, 1968 New Port 4 door 383 4bbl, 2 1967 fastback Barracuda's w/ 273 / 235hp
Commando V-8s, one w/ an A-727 and the other w/ an A-833 4 speed, 1970 Sattellite 2 dr 318 3 on the tree, 1970 "Cuda 340 4bbl auto in " Sub-Lime " w/ black vinyl roof, 1973 Challenger 318 auto. Bought an 1981 K-car basicaly over the phone, and used it as the family car w/ 2 kids then until.... we bought a 1st gen
" Voyager " 4 cyl, whihc was replaced by a second gen Voyager V-6 which we ran for 13.5yr. I can't even tell you the years for my sister's Sapporo, Lazer, 1980's 318 New Yorker, her Omni, a Neon, her Aztec Gold PT Cruiser she just retired this year, her replacement Canary Yellow PT Cruiser Route 66 edition, don't recall the year of my first PT, but can say that I ran the second PT I bought ( an '08 ) right up until Mar 2021.
Also can't recall the year model for my 4 door Sundance... which my oldest son did a bumper-roof-bumper then door-roof-door series of rolls with. Great car.... kept him alive. Had an 1985 Acclain my other son used to shut down all 4 lanes of I-69 North & South bound... when he blew the 4-banger up and launched it into the median, straddling a ditch. The IN State Police and DeKalb County Sherriff were non-plused by the whole affair. Replaced the 2nd gen Voyager w/ a pure sex 2001 Red Intrepid XLT 235hp V-6. Guess my last MOPAR purchase was the only lemon.... a 1st gen Journey V-6.

Might a' forgot a couple. Can't recall the immediate pre-war and post war stuff my Dad drove. Or also, the
3 Dodge pickups he had. The first had those big round front headlight bezells and a slant 6 3 spd.
Also didn't mention those my Uncle next door ran. He did have a 1931 Plymouth 4 door 4cyl he restored himelf.

Howdy !le

Just remembered I forgot a couple !

My brother's first car when he got married in 1971, was a 21y.o. -50 Dodge 2dr. It was some sorta
Earl Scheib robin's egg blue, and had that add-on gangster visor; and rear fender skirts.
My brother upgraded to a 1968 383 Auto all black Charger. Those 383 4bbl's worked great in any MOPAR that could accept them.

My first car was going to be a 1962 4-door 413 auto New Port, but my Dad figured I'd have it wrapped around a pole in short order; so its purchase was verbotten.

Will add that my father-in-law wanted to donate an immaculate gold 1981 Reliant 2dr 4cyl convertible; for our oldest son's use.... gratis. I declined, sighting the potential that he might some day encounter a roll-over situation, and I doubted the convertible would be adequate in such a scenerio. This proved to be prophetic, as the car my oldest son ended up driving instead, was the 4dr Sundance the he DID do a series of rolls in !
God is good ! My wife ended up driving it 3X, but we gave it back after a series of one mechanicl /electrical issue after another were encountered. Free don't fix anythting.

In all honesty... there were so many MOPARs, I literally can't recount them all.

The standouts for me were the -67 Fastback Barracudas.... which still turn my head, today.
And.... that 2001 Intrepid XRT. Pure sex body work, spoiler, moon roof, 17" 5-spoke chromies; bra.
Had stopped to gas it, when a father was walking his 3y.o. son in to the gas station. The kid arrested his father's walk, when he stopped in his tracks; and stared at the Intrepid. After several moments, his father had to tug him to start walking; again. Not a lot of cars ellicit that kind of response.

Yeh.... those E-bodies w/ 340's..... were like corn flakes w/ milk !

Ooops... remembered another one....
Dad had one of them 2door 1972 Newports. Those doors spanned into the next county when you opened them !

Ha ha haaaaaaaa. I keep remembering additional MOPARS we had:

I had a 1975 Dart Sport slant 6 auto, then a 1973 Dart Sport Auto that our dog whelped 3 out of 10 puppies in; the way to the vet. That car was replaced by a 1978 Volare' w/ a 2bbl " SUPER 6 " and 4spd OD.
The Volare' cost me $275 to buy, 'cause the owner's son had spun the bearings. I fixed that.
Dad had a combine w/ a slant 6 in it. I also saw them used in airport tugs, portable welders, hay bailers and windrowers, irrigation pumps; and marine versions in motor boats.

Them dodge boys have more fun.
Had a few way back when.
Started life with a 64 cornet 318 push button trans.
Next was. 65 cornet with a big block 383.
1972 dart swinger 318 that I hot rodded with a bunch of 360 parts.
About that time I took an apprenticeship at Dar cars Chrysler Plymouth to learn auto transmissions.
Moved up to a 73 satellite with a 360 that I tuned but wanted to make it handle better so I did the suspension using polyurethane bushings everywhere.
Locked down the suspension so tight a passenger would beg to get out of the car after a few miles of West Virginia roads.
Last was a 1966 Chrysler New Yorker 2 door gold, fender skirts bucket seats 440 single 4 barrel.
Restored it, it was a sled.
Got married…end of story.
Maybe one of these days I’ll do it again.

My first car was a '73 Dart Sport with a 340. It had a head job, bigger cam, headers, Flowmaster exhaust, and a big Holley sitting on top. It dyno'ed 390 HP at the rear wheels. It was Hemi orange with black trim and interior. I sure miss that car, but I used the money I sold it for to stay debt free for college. My dad has quite a few MOPARs that are close to finished but not quite there. He has a '68 RoadRunner that is essentially a shell he told me I can have. Maybe someday...

Owned a '72 Dodge Dart Swinger back in the late 70's. 225 slant six w/three on the tree. A good, reliable car that served me well. No complaints...

Mike

'67 GTX, '69 Road Runner, '69 Charger RT/SE, '69 Super Bee, '72 Charger, '73 Road Runner.
All in the past now. Though a friend still has the GTX and the Super Bee. At least they survived.
My dad, mom, and grandmother all drove the big Chryslers.
I guess it was in my blood.

I had a '66 Belvedere white, 2dr hardtop, sleeper car. It had a 383 4 speed. i really
enjoyed 327 vettes at the stop lights.

My wife had a V100 Valiant that may have been rare. It came with a factory 4 speed and a Hurst shifter with a 225 slant 6. I very briefly had a 63 ugly Dodge pu with a 225 slant 6 and 3 on the tree. It went to Cadereyta, Mexico 30 years ago and is still running.

I was lucky enough to purchase the first Dodge 1969 440 Six Pack A12 Super Bee sold in Orange county CA. I bought it from Brookhurst Dodge and still have the "Paid In Full" bank contract. Amazing what $4,000.00 could buy back then. Spent many Saturday nights at the now defunct Orange County Raceway rubbing elbows with Dick Landy, Sox and Martin, Bill Jenkins, Don Prudhomme, John Force and on and on. Those were some great days. It was good to be young.
