I don’t know if borax and diatomaceous earth are the same thing or not but the use is the same as mentioned earlier. Since it’s a natural occurring material, it isn’t harmful to animals or children. You can get it nearly anywhere including pool supply houses as it’s used as a filter element.

They are not the same, Borax is a chemical compound of sodium and other elements; you can find it in the laundry isle as 20 Mule Team Borax Detergent Enhancer. Because of its molecular structure most molecules love to clump onto borax so it sponges up dirt in the wash water so it can be carried away. It is also used by lead casters as a flux to help the dross clump up making it easier to remove.

Diatomaceous Earth is the shell remains of a microscopic sea animal; think of it as limestone that didn't get compressed enough and just remained a powder. It looks like a dusty powder but is sharp enough to scratch the exoskeleton of the ants as they walk through it and they leak out and dehydrate.

Both are highly poisonous to ants, but not to humans or animals. They feed diatomaceous earth to livestock to boost their calcium. I don't think you should eat borax or feed it to anything but it is not considered a poison per se.

Over the counter Terro Ant Killer is borax. Put the karo syrup-like bait on cardboard. The ants find it, bring it back to the colony and kills the colony. In a crawl space, find where they're moving, place several large dollops around the area. Has always worked for me. Takes a few days.

Been there done that they go away for a few days then come back. They just came back this morning I think this is the sixth time they have been back. I'm looking for something with a half life like they use at the Nevada testing grounds.

We have just a crawl space and it is not easy to get access to look for them. Any suggestion? Is it Ok to ask this question on this forum main page? nilebartram

I use Suspend SC to spray around and in the house. I get it from domyown.com. I used Taurus SC this year, it is for termites but also kills ants and any other creepy crawly. Either one should do the trick.

You want to kill the colony. So borax, amdro, terro. its takes a little time and it will seem like it gets worse, but eventually you’LL get there.

Permethrin will do the job it can be bought from Amazon. ants, wood-boring bees, and termites will leave.

They use Permethrin you can buy it at amazon 1oz makes 1gal. way cheaper than having an exterminator.

Diatomaceious actually cuts the legs off insects you spread it out they walk through it and the sharp edges of the ground shells cuts their legs off, do not breathe the Diatomaceious it's harmful to your lung tissue

My late brother seemingly had racist insect views as a boy. When our family would go camping, he would pit red ants against black ants. As to uncles, the best remedy to get them out of our house was when my mom forbid them from smoking cigars inside.

At my local range, despite my strong inclinations to pick up litter when I see it, there are some things -- like the scrap of target that a couple of thousand fire ants were apparently using as their roof -- that should just be left on the ground. Luckily I picked it up with my off hand, although the way I was shooting that day maybe it would have been better had they bitten me in the eyes and trigger hand.

Bug bombs (pyrethrin)under the house worked for me . Dairy barn fly killer fog works great too. Its naturally made from chrysanthemums . Great for getting wasp inside of walls too.

I use Ortho. Spread it around the perimeter your house if you can not find where they are coming in. I would also get me a light, a roll of plastic and start the project of putting the plastic down under your house of it is not already done. As I spread the plastic, I would put out Ortho.

I use sugar slurry (lots of sugar and a little water) mixed in with some yeast. It does a number on the ants, at least I don't see them after a few days, I like to imagine the ants eating the sugar-yeast mixture and trailing off and popping when the carbon dioxide builds up in their stomach. They may not pop but I kind of like the image.

Go to your Hardware store or a dealers that sells various pest products. There is a granulated brownish product you spread around, under homes that the ants eat and/or carry to their nest area, which kills them off. Works very well. Spread it around in the spring and fall and you will see a decline in any ants or spider activity.

Find the Water source ..They only set up shop when they have water...There is ALWAYS water ..small leaks are huge in an ants eyes. Just my Opinion. I live in Pine Barrens with billions of ants and many different species. Then use baited ant stations that will kill the nest..

One my mom used to use was a mix of peanut butter and Boric Acid powder (should be available from a drug store.) Mix together and leave it where the ants can get to it. They take it back to the nest and feed on it, and the BA does its thing.
