Another 1100 Remington question

I've become the owner of the 12 gauge 1100 that my Bud was having problems with. He was going to use it for self defense and cut the barrel down. My question, how can I put a 20Ga. barrel on it.

Could be, but I thought my BIL had barrels from 410-12 gauge for his, but maybe he had separate guns. I need to check with him.

Too different receivers unless it's a really old one, and back in the day they could interchange..
The newer ones don't....

Model 1100 20 ga Standard was made before the 20 LT became available. The 12 ga. and 20 ga. were manufacture on the same frame. Remington then came out with the 20LT, 28ga and 410 on a scaled down receiver.
True but, there's just a lot more involved than the bbl extension fitting the receiver. Bolt, locking lug, forearm, mag tube, cartridge stop.. Not sure what else but that's enough for most people to steer clear. I think the mag tube might be the biggest issue. Ejection port size wouldn't be a problem going this direction but the 20 port is smaller, I do believe.

fitting a 20 ga bbl around a 12 guage mag tube....would definitely be a challenge. The mag tubes have to be matched to guage. How else do you seal the gas?

2 most common problems with the 1100. Broken O ring, or BBL gas port is plugged. A paperclip will clear this.
That and putting the gas piston assembly and the o-ring in the wrong orientation. But since his bbl appears to have been cut down, it may well be the issue alone, to which, opening the gas port(s) just a tad may well cure his ails. They didn't care much for light loads anyway and cheaper ammo is pretty horrible these days.

My 1100 was built in the first year of production. I have a hunting buddy that shoots a 20. It is smaller than mine. My 1100 does not have an "o" ring. The first 3" 12s would not cycle with target loads.

make sure the OAL is long enough and add. half inch to barrel length to be on safe side. aguila makes some some lower power buckshot. keep it 12 ga.

Briley in Houston can make it happen I think. The only problem might be getting it to fully function with lighter 20 ga. loads.

Pay the Thousand to convert or buy the Rem 1100 Twenty Standard for a thou. Your money.
Yeah, Briley is proud of their work but they do good work, too. I'd try stepping the gas port size up just a few thou before I spent any money. Nothing to lose, really. This assumes the o-ring and gas piston are properly installed and no other issues.

I agree, if ya want a 20, go buy a 20....complete gun. It's tough to fix these things without seeing them, especially with very little or no input to help. Converting to 20 just isn't feasible, even if it's possible...IMHO.
