Annealing, Primers in...

Sim
You're right on both accounts. I'm not sure how you read anything like that into what said??? ¯\_(ツ)_/
My point was about heat dissipation, that the heat that does get to the body and case heat will dissipate at a different rate when you add the mass of the primer to the case head.

Simple physics. ;)
Simple physics but it doesn't apply. The cooling rate of the entire case body is very rapid and anything below the shoulder never reaches anywhere near an annealing temp. The whole case is simply cooling and the rate is meaningless.

I think we've agreed that for the most part, it doesn't matter one way or the other.

Just yesterday I was annealing a couple hundred 708's, and had to make an adjustment on my Bench Source. So, like a good boy, I pulled out the manual and did some reading. In addition to the info I was looking for, they suggest you anneal WITHOUT spent primers in.

Someone gave me a hundred primed 223 brass. After I got them home and started measuring them, I realized the shoulders were not bumped back for enough. They ran fine through the Annie inductive annealer. Sized them and they all shot well in my AR-15.

...or primers out? With a Bench Source Annealer. How do yous guys do it?

And what is the theory behind either way?
It is a horrible idea and I speak from experience. A guy I used to load with lit off 12 primers like a chain reaction and it shattered a glass bowl he was catching the brass in. Bad news, don’t do it.

Preference. I deprime, clean my cases (I shoot just about everything suppressed), anneal, size, trim and chamfer if necessary, then back in the tumbler to get the lube off…
+1 except no suppressor. My AMP has provided numbers based on clean cases, hence they’re cleaned before AMP. (I like clean cases :))

Surely he is kidding. No one in their right mind would knowingly anneal with live primers seated.
I’ve seen it done by a guy I used to reload with, I’ve never set foot in his reloading room ever again.
