Annealing Question

Do you guys punch primers before annealing, or anneal, then size and punch primers afterwards?

Somewhere along the line I started punching first (without sizing), but that just adds another step to the process. I use a Bench Source.

You should always anneal before sizing. When to "punch" the primers really doesn't make any difference. So, if you like "punching" the primers as you size, then do that after annealing.

after getting home from a match i Clean necks as i put then in my bench source.
They get decaped when i size them.

Whatever your protocol, just don't accidentally leave a live primer in a case when you anneal. Otherwise, you too could have a small, half-moon shaped scar on your cheek when the explosion shoots the brass out of the annealer straight at your head. That little 6BR case had some great BC!

I always used to anneal, then size/de-prime after.

I guess I started punching primers prior to sizing lately, when I had to neck a bunch of 308 brass down to 708, and up to 338 Fed. De-primed, annealed, then necked up and down to those two cartridges.

Decap first, annealed, size
Decapping on a separate press keeps my main press clean, worth the extra step
I do not understand why anyone would decap in their good loading press with all the hard abrasive material that comes out of the primer pocket.
First deprime then clean.

Punch the primer out . Hit the pocket lightly to get the heavy junk out and Tumble , wet , Dawn & Lemmi-shine . No pins . Anneal . Size . Tumble to remove lube , Expand neck . Insert Primer and load . I'm not sure if the sequence matters , as much as doing it the same way every freakin time . No matter what way you do it , Do it the same way every time .

First thing I do when I get home from shooting is push 3 wet patches through the barrels and then anneal the brass. Primers left in.
