American made 22 rifle?

A few years ago there was a bunch of talk about a startup company making a 22LR sporting/hunting style rifle and I have a friend looking. can you guys help me find the name and location of this company?

DiOrio is still making complete rifles (I think, but please understand I have no personal experience with them).

Yea thanks all I was looking for Keystone. I am having trouble finding him a full-sized keystone rifle. i saw a bunch of cricket sized rifles, but none for a grown up. Do they sell them from the factory, or do they have to come from a dealer? He has ARs and shotguns, but nothing to defend the chicken coop with out alerting the whole neighborhood. Someone told him he needed a 22 but he has no idea what style or action.

Yeah, we all know that a Cricket is definitely made for young one's. Have him buy a Keystone. My Tikka and Bergara are the size of the Keystone but not U.S. made.
There are definitely quite a few in that size category. The Keystone goes to 14" lop believe.

how about a nice old Winchester or Remington. Real steel and walnut. Clean ones are still available. Rifles that have been drilled for scopes usually are not collectible so they are less $ and better suited for todays shooting.
Yup! I recently picked up an old Winchester 69A. Sweet little gun.

er...everyone forgot Ruger

So true - my first rifle was a 10/22 that I wish I still had!

Great rifle, amazingly accurate with a TON of drop in parts.

There are a ton of 10/22 knock off rifles too - I have a X Ring rifle I installed a Benchmark barrel on that is amazing. It has an integral picatinny rail, and uses Ruger mags.

Great point - sorry I didn't mention it!

I have a Winchester 72, the tube fed version of the 69A. I've been shooting it for 40 years now. Somebody had whittled on the stock and drilled some extra holes so it wasn't a collector but it sure is a shooter, by my standards anyway.

I am as much buy American as I can. BUT when it comes to firearms I have no guilt including European in the mix, and esp for 22lr as that has been their 'thing' over there forever. There is also an Aussie 22lr that gets great reviews.

The last old wood stocked 22LR I bought I got off the table next to Court at the WPB gun show. Looked good the owner said it was great rifle. The etractor was broken and the replacement I got from Numrich wasn't even close to being the right size. I know I am the one who asked if there was a legal limit on old wood stocked 22 rifles but I am thinking maybe he needs some that he can get parts for and repair service. Jus not exactly sure what that is at this point
