Alternative powder for 6bra and 103’s

I have seen data from at minimum 13 different powders in the BRA. Its not that its not been tested its just that usually the most accurate powder is chosen to go to a match and that tends to be the more popular powders that you read about. The reason they are the most popular is they are the most accurate in most barrels. Thats not to say that some are not also accurate, just that they get beat out when shot against other powders. And usually these guys dont give up easy they test multiple powders in each barrel. Guys typically will post good results more often than ok results. Thats the only reason you dont hear about the others as much.

I have run Varget, N135, 8208 and H4895 in multiple barrels. So far I have ended up with H4895 with the final load on every barrel. To me it seems to be the perfect match for the BRA case. I just seem to get tuning data that makes sense with H4895. Not so much with other powders, maybe more rounds in a ladder that can’t be explained or it won’t repeat. I prefer the low node around 2,920 but lots of guys like the higher node at 3K+. I know H4895 is hard to find but keep looking while you work with the other powders you have available.

Dave.

Keep an eye on this thread. These guys are great at finding components but you need to be fast!

I read a lot about h4895, varget, and rl15 for the 6bra. There are several powders between these that no one ever mentions even trying. IMR4895 has one powder between it and H4895 but I can’t find any info for the imr with 103’s. I’m currently testing n135 and n140. Then I will try RL15 but it burns pretty dirty. I’m very tempted to try the imr4895 since I have about 12lbs of it and no H4895. As you can tell, I’m brand new to this. Thanks in advance
If I were you, I would try IMR 4895. Since it is slightly slower than the Hodgdon version, use the H4895 data and work up a load. I think you will be pleasantly surprised. Good shooting...James
