Alternative powder for 6bra and 103’s

I read a lot about h4895, varget, and rl15 for the 6bra. There are several powders between these that no one ever mentions even trying. IMR4895 has one powder between it and H4895 but I can’t find any info for the imr with 103’s. I’m currently testing n135 and n140. Then I will try RL15 but it burns pretty dirty. I’m very tempted to try the imr4895 since I have about 12lbs of it and no H4895. As you can tell, I’m brand new to this. Thanks in advance

Welcome to the forum. Might have to load some IMR 4895 up and see how it performs it might be a good alternative powder. You want know unless you give it a try.

Welcome to the forum. When I was shooting a BRA my best results were with RL-15. So far as it being a "dirty" powder..............I clean my gun so I really don't care..... ;)

Regards
Rick
Thank you, I also clean religiously. I’m just wondering why there is so many powders between H4895 and RL15 that I can’t find information where they have been tested. I don’t mind testing them myself but just trying not to waste barrel life if someone has tried something that just doesn’t work

Right????? hahaha

My sense of decorum simply will not allow myself to answer...

Times are a changing now though!!!

Gotta love a smartass, right????? Hahaha I’m sorry I asked. I’ve been developing loads for 45 years. All I was doing was looking for information. It’s clear to see that I don’t belong on this site

That just proves a New member to the forum can't ask a simple question or advise on powders for the 6bra with out there being ONE of those on the site. HA,HA,HA.

Did you not see the 35 page thread on bra load data?
Yes sir I did and it is a wealth of very good information. I could have overlooked what I was looking for. For example, there is one powder between H4895 and IMR4895 but I couldn’t find any data for the IMR. I apologize for my lack of knowledge concerning the 6bra. I didn’t mean to make anyone mad by my question. I’ll figure it out. I thought this forum was a place to make inquiries. It is apparent that I am not welcome due to what appears to be me asking a very stupid question. I’ll not post another question. Thanks

Maybe it's not you that doesn't belong?
Any way, there are countless threads dealing with the subject of loading for 6BRA but mostly all turn out the same. Apparently, there are alternatives to H4895. Lots of them!
As for IMR4895 I have a couple friends that are having excellent results shooting it in their 6BRA rifles.
So, while I can't recommend starting good starting points for it I can say you should give IMR4895 a good go.
Oh, welcome to the forum and good shooting!

While this group can almost universally offer starting, not to mention, perfect nodes for 6BR and 6 Dasher there is IMO no magic number for the 6BRA. H4895 lot consistency seems to have loads all over the map and, while I load 30.2 grains H4895 for mine, there are others over 31 grains for the same performance.
I have found the accuracy node to be quite narrow for BRA but maybe I just have an affection for the Dasher. Who knows?

I try usually about 9 different powders every barrel, especially if not acting right with h4895. H4895 is in the middle of what I usually try....be careful approaching 31 grains on my chambers. If memory serves, imr is just a tick slower, but I'd still go slow as you get towards 31. 8208, ar comp I would be careful as you get towards 30. Varget, rl15 I'd watch as you approach 32. That's my take on BRA and 103s with my barrels since 2017. This on lapua made cases, maybe nock a grain off or so for others.

I have used Norma N203B for years. Very very close to R-15. And yes, VV powders work well, N-140, N-150, N540, N550. Already memtioned, 8208-XBR, AR-Comp. I personally an not into testing alot of different powders in a barrel. But I wont argue with “Tom M” results lol! I do test several bullets in a barrel instead. Samuel Hall

Thank you Mr. Sam. I’m looking for some N540 as we speak.

Yes sir. I can already see that the 6bra is a different animal. It takes pretty critical tuning. Thank you for the info.

Thank you very much for the info. I’m gonna give it a whirl. I will be happy to post the results

I was not referring to you in a bad way. I was agreeing with you. Unfortunately, sarcasm is often misinterpreted on forums. My apologies.
