Alpha 6BRA brass

I’m betting on .060” out of the two although I run mine just slightly over that.

Dave.
I just received 100 of the Alpha 6BRA and they are .080 flash hole.
I ordered after seeing Alex say he had to bump them slightly to fit his chamber.
Not so with what I received, not would it be had my barrel's head space been held to zero. My Alpha measures is .003 shorter than my fired Lapua.

We are not limited to just those two sizes. I reamed a few sizes for tom to test. If it points in a direction I'll ream more that way. Im not sure exactly how the .060" was settled on originally, but even if really thorough testing was done Im sure it was with a ppc and our results may end up being different.

I’m betting the ideal size can vary with the primer used. I’ve run .060”, .0635” and .067” with 205M’s in a 6BR Ackley. I also think the powder(how easily it ignites) is a major variable that interacts with both the flash hole size and primer used so I’ll keep my results to myself. There are so many possible variables I doubt it would help anyone out. Eventually I didn’t want to put extra wear on a really good barrel so I stopped with what worked best with that primer, powder, neck tension etc.

Tom has a tough testing regime ahead of him to come up with anything definitive but he will probably pull it off.

Dave.

Has anyone experienced ignition issues with the small flash hole in 6BR variants? I had my first negative experience a couple months ago with my 6.5x47 when the weather cooled off. All of a sudden my ES went wild (teens up to 70+) and groups opened way up with standard primers.
It's got me wondering if a 6.5x47 with 0.080" flash holes would do the same thing or not.

True, you know my data will probably be revolving around 4895. Although the barrel i picked out off the pile was on 8208 when Cody won the lg group title the year we held national. It hasn't fired a round since, been hoarding it for a good cause. Luckily the testing will get started in the cold season, so we shouldn't miss anything on the small side that will bite us later. Unless Wheelers hoaky decaping stem breaks right away lol!

This I have heard before. Folks who had tunes worked out and understood the lower speed limits of their node, had their ES/SD go wonky in colder weather, even if they bumped their charge back up to get back within their previous tune. They were concluding that even though the cold was slowing them some and they tried to compensate for the cold, that with the smaller flash holes they lost performance in cold. They said they were happy again when they reamed open their flash holes. I didn't get to see them test or their data, so take that as internet lore for now.

Waiting on a new shipment of Roy’s 103s. Taking my new to me Wheeler BRA to a indoor 100 and trying the Alpha brass. I’m excite For this next season.

Alex, I am thinking about ordering some starline 6.5 creedmoor brass with small primer pocket and .080 flash hole. What do you think?

My 12/20 order was shipped on the 21st and has been stuck in Utah since.
My 6 BRA brass was just dropped off by UPS. This is my first Alpha order and included a handwritten thank you note addressed to me. The day after the order, I received an email stating brass dimensions, load data card and I like the plastic box that the brass is packaged in. I really hated to remove the paper sleeve surrounding the box. So far I’m very impressed with Alpha.

I started working with it yesterday. I can say for a fact it can take a punch! Shot a single piece of brass 50 times. The average for the 50 shots was 3006 FPS. On the last shot I took it up to 3030. Primer pocket is still good.

I shot 1k nats at 3,040s, so you know I'll do my best to wreck it lol. And still couldn't outrun the angle change!
