Alliant Reloder-16

I noticed the same thing with Reloader 15 vs Varget. I don't mind cleaning but in a long competition the accuracy could suffer if no time to clean

In my opinion and using both RL15 and the new RL16 the 16 probably leaves 2X the powder fouling over the RL15.
 
Can someone confirm whether or not it appears to be slightly faster than H4350? are the velocities you are getting slightly improved?

I'm headed to the range in the morning. I'll load up 3-4 of H4350 and shoot them with same load I shot using RL16
 
Try Graf's - I had some on order since July, saw word MS had it so bought mine there, cancelled Graf's order.

They got their's in this week, hadn't quite got it processed for shipping hence the snafu.

A lot of the newer powders are formulated using compounds that aren't quite as restricted as others more traditionally used, compounds that aren't becoming more difficult to obtain due to increasing regulatory climate.

I'm wondering if the 'dirtier than...' may be a result of this, and whether the residue actually helps decrease wear & tear on barrels, formulated to act as a lubricant in some way?

Does it just make more dirty patches or does it leave more in the bore that isn't easy to remove? Everyone talks about how dirty 15 is, but it seems to me like it just takes a few more patches than some other powders.

Wouldn't more dirty patches mean more fouling in the bore? I don't know if it's any harder to come out, it just takes a whole lot longer and many more patches to get the bore clean. My thinking is it can't be good, especially developing a carbon ring. I guess in time we will know the long term results of the powder. For me on the two outings I shot with it I'm leaving it alone for now.

I put 20 rounds down range and it took me all of 30 mins to get the bore clean and still showed a hint of carbon on a dry patch so it really wasn't completely clean then.

I don't worry about how long it takes to wipe the easy stuff out as much as I am the amount of hard stuff that takes abrasives to remove. You've got a bore scope so you know clean patches don't mean you have a clean barrel.

Thank you you have confirmed what another poster on this thread has stated, same charge weight higher speed.
Dmoran also confirmed better ES/SD numbers

this could have promise for those cartridges that are running slightly compressed loads with H4350.

I can tighten the ES of both by using a tighter neck bushing but I was comparing everything exactly same. Also on the H4350 I can add .4-.6 more grains powder and most likely shrink the ES and SD numbers down even further. The 35.4 wasn't even my accuracy load for H4350

That is my hope as my current loads for a 6.5 Creedmoor in Lapua Palma cases are at 100% cap and the velocity is lower than I would expect (current barrel has been slower than the first by nearly 100 fps avg. for the same charge of H4350).

If the H4350 wasn't your accuracy node 35.4 was the RL 16 your accuracy speed 2958. stated another way you need to run 35.8 or 36gn for your accuracy node which happens to be 2958 using h4350?
