Alliant powder bottle size WHY?

Good one...
As far as the Alliant Powder(R) canister size is concerned, they were designed to hold 1lb, 4lbs and 8lbs of low density shotshell powders such as Red Dot(R) and Extra-Lite(R).
I'm sure there is room for optimization, but we use one size for each size class.
The pill bottle format wouldn't hold a pound of our lower density products, so we designed our own. Our competitors took a different approach, and pack less than a pound for some of the products.
Thank you to those that buy our powders.
Paul
Makes sense

Most certainly applaud your company for the 4 lb cans of powder.

I love their powder but the square VV, accurate, and ramshot powder containers are way better for storage. The hogden varget 8lb bottle is also great. Round bottles are way less efficient for space for me and most likely the store as well.

I used R-15 because I couldn't get my hands on any IMR4064. Found that my 225 win likes it and it pours down the funnel and into the cases easier with the smaller cut kernels. So I will buy more down the road.

Now that I have found some 4064 (3-1lb sealed cans in route) I do plan on blending it all if the lot #s are different.

I was gifted some powder and other items yesterday from a fellow shooter. The Alliant RL 22 has been kept well. No signs of deterioration. not sure of its age, check out the price tag $16.95 and the Winchester 296. :)

Think it’s because powders like trail boss have a very low density. I think the containers are sized for a given weight of all powders.

Might be their specific filling process then it settles. Like a bag of chips. Might be cheaper for them to have larger container and faster filling times than the opposite. Don't know for sure.

Rest assured that the bean counters have the logistics end figured out to the gnat's ass.
